wintering in texas

good morning ,,, i am looking for info on wintering in corpus christi area for next winter ,,,does anyone have any experiences with the area . what rv parks would be the best to go look at. which ones arent worth it . and is it mostly warm throughout the winter . i have heard some people say its cold and others say its warm .
  • Go to www.weatherbase.com and type in the city to get the averages. 59 degree average in January is warm to those from Minot, ND and cold to those from Dominican Republic.
By contrast the average temperature in Tampa, FL in January is one degree warmer.

I would ask a moderator to move your question to Snowbirds. TX was colder than normal for the first half of this winter with near freezing temps even in Mission several times. I'd look at this as it has the actual and the norm for Mission TX or any other city. If you want warm WX all day long and coming from RI I'd look at south Fla. Yes it costs more than TX and yes there are more ways to spend your money.
  • Been very cold winter here this winter. Spent Christmas in The valley and used heat most days.
  • Rockport, just up the coast a few miles, is more of a snowbird enclave rather than Corpus.
  • This is our 5th. winter in south-TX (4th. in Rockport). This winter was the worst of the 5, but it was bad everywhere!! We did not see any freezing temps here (maybe an hour or two here and there). The problem was the constant cold fronts moving in for 2 or 3 days at a time. Which makes it feel much colder after 60's and low 70's. These fronts also adversely affected the normal good fishing:( We love south-TX and the friendly texans. In fact we love it so much that we have decided to leave our trailer here and return sometime late summer. Prior to wintering here we spent 10 years wintering in south FL. The Rockport area is becoming very popular. Fell free to PM us if we can help with any questions.
  • Corpus Christi...you can be anywhere from Mustang island,,several parks there over to Aransas Pass..has to be 15 parks in close area there from $ to $$$$ also Rockport/Fulton area.
It was cold there this winter and we have never over wintered there Stayed until after Xmas once then to the Valley.
We do Florida now but if A.P. was 5-10 degrees warmer in winter we would stay there, never go to the RGV.
There is a circle drive from A.P. into CC down the SPID back thru Mustang Island and take the free ferries back across to A.P.
Look up rvparkreviews.com for all those areas..
  • Just taking a wild guess here but I would say there are at least 20 RV parks in the Rockport area which is about 30 miles north of Corpus.
In Rockport I've stayed at Rockport 35 now called Wilderness Oaks, Sand Dollar and currently at Salt Water Flats and over in Corpus I've stayed at Colonial Del Ray.
Each park has its advantages and disadvantages. If I were you I would come down a couple of days early and ride around and check them all out.
I've been coming to the Rockport/Corpus area since 2014 and like LynnandCarol said this has been the coldest winter by far, yet we only went below 32 for a couple of hours and no more than 3 days. I've also stayed in the Tampa area and while they certainly beat us this year temperature wise, last year we were warming than them on most days.
  • This was our third winter in the CC area. We stay on Mustang Island at a park just south of Port Aransas. This was the coldest winter we've had but it wasn't really cold compared to what most of the country was experiencing. On the island temps never got to freezing although they did a few times in Corpus and Rockport. We had a number of days with temps in the 40's and overcast which weren't a lot of fun, but after a few days the sun always seems to come back out and the temps go to the 60's. The winds can be strong at times, but I think this year we had fewer very windy day. Yesterday, the temps were only about 60 at our park but with the strong sun it was quite warm.

Do not assume that the qualty of life is anywhere close to what you are reading into those statistics. I find those web sites a big joke now that i snowbird.

To op try them all and see what fits your needs.
  • Is weatherbase a guarantee? No. But the expanded weather statistics show the average highs and lows, and the highest and lowest by month for the last 30 years. Also average days by month for rain, snow, days above 90, 80, etc. and days below freezing, again over the last 30 years. If nothing else, it will tell you what to pack. The joke is flying by the seat of your pants.
