wiring led strip lights from battery

My question is..... Is there a problem wiring my awning led strip lights directly to the battery and running them off of it while the trailer is plugged in and on shore power? My plan is to mount them to the trailer wall just where the awning meets the trailer, and run the wires down inside the power awning rail against the trailer to the underside of the trailer where I will have the control module and connection that are easy to plug/unplug if need be. Then I will run wire through a wire loom from the control module up to the battery for power.

I dont have anywhere that is easily accessible to hard wire the lights to. So I was thinking this would be relatively easy and not have any permanent holes or anything in the camper

I just mounted mine like that. However I tapped into the porch light and use the switch to turn them on. I have the big scare light on another switch.

I purchased lepages "no more nails" adhesive tape to stick them up. They kept falling off with the tape that was on them.

I too tapped into the porch light. I love these things. They put out a lot more light (or less if you want) and uses a fraction of the power that the single bulb porch light did. I have the 16 foot strip with a wireless remote which gives you dozens of color choices.

Can you say how you plan on hooking up the strip to the battery?

With alligator clips attached to the end of the positive and negative wires hooked to each battery post. I want to be able to completely unhook everything if I want with no permanent damage left behind. That way I can also unhook them from the battery when traveling so I know they cant come on while going down the road, or vibrate loose at the hard wire connection and cause a short somewhere.

  • No problems at all. Just add a inline fuse near the battery, and you're good to go.
