What a bunch of doom and gloom! I guess you also have a 50/50 chance of wiring up your batteries correctly. Or is it even less than that if you got more than 2 cables to connect.
Those who are smart enough will use a voltmeter to polarity.
My Visio has a 12V brick. I've taken the battery to 16V with no problems to the tv.

"bypassing" the brick is not without potential pitfalls.
Insuring you have wired your cig plug to the TV CORRECTLY is one of the major hurdles that needs to be addressed properly.
You have a 50/50 chance of messing that up to start with and pretty much are voiding any hopes of the "warranty" covering your boo boo.
Sorry.. You lose.
Folks HAVE and DO hook their batteries up backwards.. Pretty much every spring there will be some threads posted right here on this very forum..
At least with the batteries the converter/power panel has a BUILT IN REVERSE POLARITY PROTECTION FUSE.
A TV which uses a brick power supply DOES NOT HAVE REVERSE POLARITY PROTECTION.
As far as YOUR TV being "OK" with 16V, you are "lucky", there HAVE been posts right here on this forum in which some folks were NOT SO LUCKY when they powered their converter.. The result is they bought ANOTHER TV on their own dime then used an inverter..
Just because YOURS "works" fine up to 16V does not necessarily mean ALL TVs will play nice at that voltage.
Do you "feel lucky"? Then roll the dice..
If you don't then play it safer by sucking it up and using an inverter.
Peoples "advice" here is free, but when someone uses YOUR advice and they damage something.. Are YOU "willing" to compensate them when something goes wrong after following YOUR "advice"? Good chance you would be nowhere to be found..
It is very easy to hide behind a keyboard and tell folks that all will be well with all TVs.. In the real world not all TVs will be fine and not all people will wire it correctly..
