- jjrbusExplorerI have been watching the new Atwood units. Not much feed back or reviews on them yet, but might be worth a look.
http://www.tvformyrv.com/content/AtwoodACPresentation2014.pdf - alfredmayExplorerI believe Carrier is now out of the RV market.
- Kayteg1Explorer IIWhen I was shopping around for roof AC few years ago, I wanted the low-profile but they did cost much more and did not have the best recommendations at the time.
I went with Carrier having splash-technology that will not run water down the side and also is having moving fins and "cold shower" vent.
Lot of gadgets to choose. Some work for one, don't for other so use your previous experience to figure out what you like the most. - steveh27ExplorerI replaced mine with Dometic's High Efficiency unit. It works great on my B and I can easily run it with my single Honda 2000 genny.
- map40ExplorerIn our rental fleet we have been installing the Atwood units. Far better than Dometic or Coleman using less power. Much better controls and better airflow. You can run two 13.5K on a 4K generator all day long.
We have been using them for two years. So far, no problems. - rdmikeExplorerWe use our heat pump all the time. Works great.
- Replace with same if it is working for you.
Make sure the thermostat is compatible as many are going digital. - 1492ModeratorNot unless you want to replace it with a 4k UHD TV or a new SmartPhone, you're better off in a more appropriate forum? :B
Moved from Technology Corner - Pirate1ExplorerDon't waste your money on a heat pump unit, stick with just an AC. I have NOT been happy since I put one on. It works, just not like I thought it would and wouldn't have spent the money if I had known ahead of time.
- DutchmenSportExplorerMake sure your current Ceiling Plenum matches the new air conditioner.
The new air conditioner will not come with the Ceiling Plenum. You will either need to use the old one in your camper or purchase a new one. If the old one does not match, you'll need to buy one that will.
The Plenum is the vent cover on your ceiling. Some are vented, some are ducted, some have controls built right on them, and others are designed for use with a thermostat.
The plugs on these have to match the plug on the air conditioner too, especially if the controls are built on the Plenum and don't use a wall thermostat.
We swapped out our 13,500 for a 15,000. I let the dealer do it all, so make sure it was right. We were really hoping to use the original as a second air conditioner in the bed room as there was already a vent there. When he pointed out we'd need to purchase another Plenum, (and the trailer simply was not wired for that), that's when we decided to just go with the bigger air conditioner.... which works very well by the way!
I insisted I get the old air conditioner back. There was nothing wrong with it. We even advertised it on Craigs list, very cheap. The only people interested wanted to know if the original Plenum can with it. When I said "no" it stayed in the trailer, I never heard from them again. To this day, that air conditioner is still sitting in our utility shed at home. Hope I never have to retrieve it, and thought about hooking it up inside my shed to help cool it. Meanwhile, it sits. No Plenum, no sale!
