2006 KZ Sportsmen slide problems

We have an 2006 KZ Sportsmen Sportster 33P with one main floor slide. We have extended the slide and now are unable to retract it. It appears that a motor bracket bolt is broken and lets the motor twist and the gears do not engage when trying to bring the slide in.

The slide is made by RBW Industries now owned by AL-KO.

Any tips to get the motor and gears out would be appreciated.
Thanks for any assistance or references to other posts or sites that might prove helpful.

  • Thanks for the suggestion, but I will have to use an extractor to get the sheared bolt out of the motor and there is no way to drill without removing the motor.
  • Is there any way to use a car's tire jack with other bits and pieces as required on top and sticking out however, to hold the motor/bracket(s) in place so you can just replace the bolt, instead of taking all that out?
  • Thanks for your help.
I have opened up the belly and discovered that when the button is pushed to bring the slide in the motor twists and I can see where the bolt is sheared off. I have to get the motor & the gear bracket out so I can hopefully remove and replace the sheared bolt. The motor is placed above the cross tube for the other rack and there is a gear on a shaft that I have to determine how to remove.
  • I had the exact same symptoms on our 2013 KZ Durango. You could hear the motor turn, but nothing was happening.

It turned out to be a bolt that had come loose, and was not holding the motor engaged with the gears. The bolt was still there, but was way loose.

If you have not done so already, you should pull the belly wrap away from the suspect motor/gear area and inspect it while someone tries to operate the slide. On ours, the access "slit" in the belly wrap was secured with a plastic tie. You oughta be able to see what's going on then.
