Imagine if the total carbon emissions spent in manufacturing the RV solar panels on your travel trailer were equivalent to 3X the amount to manufacture a Honda EU2000 inverter/generator.
And please shed the sunshine on the carbon emissions of a Honda vs a solar panel. Why are you keeping it a secret?
Homey, I was told by several good minded people on this RV.net forum that BEV's are cleaner than ICE vehicles on day 1. As you know, I have disproved that notion; compared to ICE vehicles--more carbon emissions are produced during BEV's manufacturing process. Depending on miles driven annually and whether if the electricity is clean or dirty, BEV's carbon parity will come years or decades later.
I am rather surprised you chose your "personal freedom" (solar for noise reduction and no fumes) over preserving Mother Earth (carbon emission reduction aka Climate Change). Seems "individuality" is no longer vogue. - pianotunaNomad IIII'm meticulous about checking voltage under load before I plug in. The lowest I've seen since 2000 is 100 volts. That is easily fixed with an autoformer.
Since actual power is affected by the square of the voltage drop here are some numbers
120 volts = 14,400
100 volts = 10,000
10,000 / 14400 = 31% loss of power.
So an EV might take about 1/3 longer to charge.
Since I could survive on level 1 charging, it makes no difference to me. Bobbo wrote:
Safety shut off is different than lack of generation and will not be caused by plugging in your 400 mile EV-RV.
Okay. Haven't heard of PG&E?
Here is a link to an article. These 29,000 people facing blackouts may not think it is a "lie with no evidence."

Can only relate my experience of total silence on the issue of brown out or black outs. There will not be evidence as I have not data logged the no issues status.
(I don't consider "I haven't had a brownout" any more convincing than "I've never had sway so you don't need sway control.")
Just like politics it is easy to throw out a lie with no evidence presented and expect others to spend hours and hours to disprove the lie and some how are expected to provide reams of proof. Then the big lie gets repeated over and over. Does not make it true.

wtf does “Homey” mean?
I used to live in that void south of Oregon and north of Mexico. Spent 60+ years in LA & Orange County.

So we should not build solar panels until we have electricity from solar panels to build them?time2roll wrote:

You remind me of the guy that can't fix anything because he has no workbench. And no workbench to build a workbench.
If a solar panel is manufactured using electricity generated from coal (China), how "green" is it? Are there "greener" options?
Nah, a value based consumer. If I'm going to pay a premium for a particular "benefit", then I want to make sure I maximize the value of that "benefit".
In other words, if reducing carbon emissions is the "benefit", then I want make sure one of the qualities is very low low carbon emissions during it's entire lifecycle (manufacture -> use -> disposal).
Some people focus strictly only on "use" and disregard the mountain of carbon emissions produced by greedy, profit-driven Chinese factories (manufacture)...and what winds up in our landfills, aka Mother Earth(disposal).
I look at the entire cost: monetarily and socially, cradle to grave.
I keep thinking to eliminate coal we should build the panels. Otherwise we will just be using coal indefinitely.
Homey, never said suggested that. Just suggesting a good dose of honesty and integrity is needed in these advertising claims.
As consumers we should have information detailing the amount of carbon emissions spent in the production of homogeneous products, like solar panels.
Why do you think this info should be kept secret? I thought sunlight is the best disinfectant for ridding lies and deception.
Imagine if the total carbon emissions spent in manufacturing the RV solar panels on your travel trailer were equivalent to 3X the amount to manufacture a Honda EU2000 inverter/generator.
And also imagine if the breakeven point (carbon parity to the Honda) is 15 years of usage for your RV solar panels. The result, your good deed (going solar) actually caused more harm to Mother Earth.
Homey, asking for information is not a bad gig. Bobbo wrote:

BTW I believe the grid will do just fine.
You mean the grid that has been suffering brown-outs and black-outs for decades in the most populous areas? That grid?
Trampy had four years to improve everything and Make America Great,
why didnt he?
Btw did Mexico sent money for the Wall yet ?
When you can't argue the topic, attack, deflect, change the subject.
Why did you feel the need to get political when discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the power grid? That is not a political subject.time2roll wrote:
I can mostly only speak for the greater Los Angeles basin and we have been doing just fine thank you very much. Never had a brown out and the last black out was the peak Enron days.
Upgrades are progressing every single day.
I have heard rumors even TX has been making improvements.
While time2roll didn't make a cogent counterargument, he at least kept it topical.
