I have read and reread this thread. No-one has determined what the issue is. Your statement that the red and white wires are crossed does not mean anything without other information. COULD the wire colors be the issue. RED usually indicates a HOT and WHITE a NEUTRAL. But is your source of power (main panel wired to this receptacle) RED-HOT and WHITE-NEUTRAL or WHITE-HOT and RED NEUTRAL. Without the voltage information for the L1, L2, N, Gnd pins at the recepacle as wired, NO correct/proper/safe answer can be given. There are many educational sources for the correct wiring of the RV 50A/240V (most common) or the RV 50A/120V (least common) shore power services in this forum. JM2¢...

Please define "mis-crossed". Not familiar with this term.

If you mean the Black goes to the left eye and the red to the right eye (depends on the view) - it should not make any difference.

As long as the 2 lines are connected to the left and right terminals, Ground to the top center, neutral to the bottom center (as shown above)- it should be ok.

And...

50 amp RV service is NOT 240V - it is 120/240V 1 phase, 4 wire.

If nothing else I hope all these posts put enough fear in your heart to call a good knowledgeable electrician.

The “normal” for 120 volts has a white neutral and a black 120 volt hot line. The 3rd wire is ground and might be unshielded copper or green.

The “normal” for 240 volts has a white neutral, a black 120 volt hot line, and a red 120 volt hot line that is 180 degrees out of phase with the black wire. The 4th wire is ground and might be unshielded copper or green.

The hot wires are alternating current. They change from plus 120 volts to minus 120 volts 60 times a second. 180 degrees out of phase means that when one wire is plus 120 volts, the other is minus 120 volts. The difference between plus and minus 120 volts is 240 volts!

The 50 amp RV circuit crosses half of the RV outlets from red(120) to white(neutral) to give you 120 volts and the other half from black(120) to white(neutral) which also gives you 120 volts. If the red and white wires are crossed, the result would be:

half of the RV outlets from red(neutral) to white(120) to give you 120 volts and the other half from black(120) to white(120) which gives you 240 volts – and the 240 volts will fry anything plugged into those outlets![\b]

And when you are absolutely 100% sure that is correct use this

My brother hired a bonded electrician that said he could hook up a 30 amp for him. Unfortunately the electrician did not know that the 30 amp was supposed to be 110 VAC. The electrician had to pay to replace all the damaged equipment.

Sounds like the electrician mistakenly wired up a plug for an electric clothes dryer or a welder, which is 220 volts. You have to be careful with 30 amp - household vs RV needs can be different. 50 amp service seems to follow a more consistant standard.
