- mockturtleExplorer IIThanks, all, for the valuable input.
- eaw46ExplorerNot a bad motor but has injection troubles in less than 100K miles and is over $5K to fix. I got tired of paying big money for fuel filters and air filters and the injectors were the last straw I now do Cummins. Eddy
- christopherglenExplorerI had 3, sold one, 2 left.
All three have issues in the latest generations. The Ram performed the worst on uphill and downhill towing, in all but one test the GM beat out the Ford. Rumor has it that the Ford engines self destruct if there is ANY water in the fuel - and Ford voids the warranty if it finds any rust in the fuel pump / injectors (which means there was water in the fuel).
As far as cruising range, look at Titan tanks, or Transfer flow to see what they sell (there are others) for the year / make / model you are interested in. - mockturtleExplorer II
Jim, "Why do you never hear of guilty bystanders?"
:B
Good point, Jim. I like to be able to go further on a tank of fuel and do a lot of high-altitude driving. Can I justify the increased price? Probably not. You can buy a lot of gas for the extra $8-9K. :D And it adds quite a bit of weight, too. - HandbasketExplorerUnless you plan to tow with it, or need really good performance at high altitude, the diesel is overkill in a Tiger, IMO. The current 6.0 liter gasser has almost the same torque & HP as my older 8.1, tho' probably at higher RPM. Save yourself some $$$.
Jim, "Why do you never hear of guilty bystanders?" - mockturtleExplorer IIWhat I am interested in is a Tiger CX 4X4 motorhome on a Silverado 3500HD chassis.
- Wayne_DohnalExplorerI owned a 2003 for a few years. I think that was an LB7 during that timeframe. The biggest drawback was that there were a lot of injector problems and they were very difficult to replace. That situation was improved in later versions of the engine, but some of them had their own problems. My own experience was that it ran great and pulled strong. I didn't particularly like a lot of design features of the rest of the truck. The engine and Allison tranny were flawless for me.

Lb7 was good but low on power Lly was terrible, lmm was good.
There's probably more LB7's with injector problems out there than there are LLY's that are "overheaters".
Pretty general condemnation....
IMHO;) - Turbo_Diesel_DuExplorerI had a 2011 2500 CC 4X4. I called it a "Hangar Queen" due to the fact it spent almost as much time in the shop as it did being used. Numerous lites for the DEF, Shifter cable broke and the 4X4 cable kept falling off the shaft. Finally gave up and went back to 6.7 Rams problem's solved! Down sized from that to a F150 Ecoboost CC 4X4, Happy so far.
