Dive proof battery case that can hold D batteries.
Jesús, is a licensed commercial diver for lobster and oysters. Uses compressor air. Wet suit uses lots and lots of lead weight. Why not strap on a battery pack? Given availability of WATERPROOF battery container, and headlamp housing (both hands free) I'll rig up a freakin' 10-watt 12 volt LED (65F water is so great as a heat exchange media).
All depends on waterproof containers.
You have not put a peso value on your clunker... this can make effective changes in your results. Is that a sparrow's nest I hear in the backround? - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerNeed Cat Skinned...

Using watt hours is like rating a toaster in mega calories.
The chemistry in those batteries is totally different than standard off-the-shelf Li-Ion. The vendor is ADAMANT that operating voltage is 1.5 not 1.2 volts. So a standard Li-Ion charger will not work. Perhaps a charger for rechargeable alkaline? I now have all the buckers I need so that would not be a problem.
A standard small battery is 3.7 volts.
I am looking for a diving headlamp for Jesús. Powerful. 3-hours of work time on the brightest setting and rechargeable batteries. Something that is worth less than my clunker car.
As basic as it gets, but, about 2 hours is realistic on the battery. If you could find something like this that held two 18650's in parallel, that would do the trick.

Another option, brighter, and much more capacity batteries with 26650's versus 18650's.

I think you'll find your 3 hour parameter kills you when pitted against the value of your clunker. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerUsing watt hours is like rating a toaster in mega calories.

This has been one of my biggest gripes about AAA nickel metal hydride batteries. These critters are not cheap but my 400 lumen light won't shine at 300 lumens fully charged, either. Here is the eBay search term.
2 pcs 1.5v 1100mAh AAA rechargeable li-ion polymer lithium battery
Honorable label incorrect. It says 1100mWh which is ridiculous.
Honorable capacity is 1100mAh in reality
You'll be lucky to find 900 mAh AA's in lithium, and in reality, you might really only get 500 mAh out of them, 45 minutes of run time, if you are lucky. I have one of those Deal Extreme flashlights in AA, with a 3.7V LiIon battery, and it is one really handy light to have, however, I really prefer the life of a charge of an 18650 batteried flashlight even more.

Yeah, but are you dead certain you really got a T-6 bin emitter on your flashlight? Those are cutting edge emitters, with bleeding edge pricing when built into a flashlight. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIThe chemistry of the batteries is what determines the voltage. I very very seriously doubt those are 1.5 volt batteries.. Epically from the language you used to describe the capacity..
Also. 1100mWh is not ridiculous as you suggest. IF the batteries are, in fact, 1.5 volt that is 733 mAH.. Kind of like a trick Wal*mart uses on it's 12 volt automotive size batteries.. If you look at the labels at Wal*mart a group 24 is over 100 amp hours capacity AT THE ONE AMP RATE
At the C/20 rate that's 75 amp hours.
They used a non-standard method of rating the battery (A DIShonorable practice) in order to make them look better than they really are. - SCVJeffExplorer

AA LiIon LED flashlight from DealExtreme - GordonThreeExplorer400 lumens is a lot to expect from AAA batteries, that's a 5+ watt led unless it's cutting edge, and even still 3 watts.
Honorable flashlight should have a SEPIC / boost converter to operate more independently from the cell voltage.
I built a ~600 lumen lamp for my mountain bike, operates off 4 AA nimh, ~4-5 volts in, ~9 volts at 1 amp out... get an hour or so at full power, but usually run it at half power for longer rides, using 3000 mah digital camera batteries (capacity is pretty close confirmed by Wizard One charger)
that reminds me, need to find that lamp so it can get packed for my upcoming trip. - NinerBikesExplorer
