Click, click, click

From the first time I turned on my TT furnace, I heard click click click from the AC unit. When I called my salesman from CW, all he said was, "at least if it doesn't get worse, then it is probably OK". However, we were out this past weekend and it is pretty annoying. So I googled, "click click dometic AC thermostat" and there are several accounts of this.

I am surprised how easy it was to "fix", and more surprised that this kind of thing is not in a set of FAQs for new RV buyers.

The dometic thermostat has settings that can stop the click click. Press and hold "-" and then press and hold "the select button". Then you will likely see "d1". Press the down arrow to select "d2". This sets the temperature differential that the AC looks for when trying to turn on.

Simple.

Works.

What bothers me is how simple the fix is and how this problem is not automatically addressed during the sales process.
  • You Mean...

Do to "Herb" what "Jennifer" did (?)

Salesmen exist to push units, clear inventory, to heck with meeting quota - beat it. Make the service manager happy. Good god you definitely do not want a post it note on your desk that says REPORT TO MEESTER BEEG IMMEDIATELY!
  • Any salesman who is not capable of troubleshooting technical problems over the phone when the customer says the unit is making a "clicking" sound should be fired immediately and blackballed from ever obtaining similar employment throughout the industry. "Click click click" is apparent to any salesperson with a brain to be a programming issue with the themostat. "Click click" would be a wiring interface problem and "Click Click, THAWCK, clank CLUNK" would be user error combined with frustrated smashing of the thermostat. All the salesperson would have needed to do is get out their copy of "The Official Salesperson's Guide to Clicking Noises" and the problem would have been nipped in the bud. We should all thank the OP for reminding us the proper chain of command to follow when we need service on items. Always call the salesperson and bypass the pesky manuals and service people.
  • Seriously? :B You asked a sales person?

Last month he probably sold used cars and next month he is liable to be selling steaks out of the back of a pick up truck.
  • Thank goodness. I thought this was going to be a report about the last last actions of a man with a TV Remote just before the DW reached for a meat cleaver.

Why would an RV Salesman KNOW how the Dometic Thermostat programing would resolve an issue that wasn't identified during a PDI.

He is a 'salesman' not a Tech guy that was trained by Dometic.

Should have called Dometic Tech and inquired OR read thru Manual for thermostat

I expect a salesman to show me the unit, demonstrate the various features, haggle with me over pricing, interface with dealership 'head guy' etc BUT not provide Tech Support for an 'Unknown' issue.

The finance person should have told me to lubricate my fluxion bearings twice a year.

  • It's RV salesman 101. It's the first words they teach them at RV Salesman University...
"It's normal and will probably be ok."
