Converting NEMA 14-30R to TT-30R?

I have a NEMA 14-30R outlet that I'd like to use to charge my RV. Can I use an adapter such as this one?

All the 14-30R to TT-30R adapters I've seen seem to be intended for use with generators, so I'm not clear on whether they can also be used to adapt an electrical outlet?

    Not a big deal to DIY but if you paid for TT-30 he should fix it.
    Actually the TT-30 would be slightly lower cost with one less wire and a single breaker.

    :E make sure it is just 120 volts before you plug in :E

    Have him show you on his meter.

    You still need to make sure the outlet you end up with is 120v. The wire to it still has four wires and you only want three. Stick-house electricians can't be trusted for RV work, since they don't often see a 30 with 120.

    Use your own multi-meter to check the new outlet's voltage before you ever plug the RV shore cord into it.

Sounds like maybe the best solution is to get the electrician back out and have him take out the 14-30R and install a TT-30R.

    Where is this outlet you want to use? Is it for a welder or something? Your pool pump?

    Yes you can use that adapter. Internally only one hot leg is tied in.

    I prefer the dog bone type..

    samo, one end is a L14 for twist lock, I doubt it fits the 14 straight blade you have.

    The OP is not replacing an outlet, he is trying to find a dog-bone to convert one to the other.

    Turn off power. Remove 14-30. Cap off one hot with a wire nut and push it back in the box. Connect the TT-30 to the remaining 3 wires. Attach outlet to the box and install new cover plate. Turn on power. Verify with voltmeter.

    That is indeed a 220V outlet. I cant tell you how many people have come on the forum with a tale of "converting" that outlet to a trailer outlet only to fry their RV.
    It can be done but you must make sure there is no 220V before plugging in. I dont think there is a ready made conversion pigtail. You will have to make it.
