It is not worth it. Tell me, when was the last time you had tire damage that was not repairable? For me, it was about 30 years ago. Figure you will damage a tire beyond repair very 20 years or so. They want $64 plus tax to protect the tires. If you are unlucky enough to damage a tire beyond repair, not likely, then how much more than $64 will it cost to replace a tire? Maybe $40? Are you willing to spend $64 to save $40 IF AND THAT IS A BIG IF you damage one tire?
My car tires are $250+ EACH. In the last two years I've had three tires replaced by discount tire (over $600 total) for road hazard (see my post above) Two from hittig an expose water main cover, one from a sidewall nail. over $750 in tires replace under warranty at my cost of $64 for the set of 4. pretty good return on investment. I will admit, 40 series Z rated tires are much easier to be damaged than a LT tire. And I don't pay for the warranty on my truck tires, but do on my 40 series car tires and Maxxis TT tires.
The road hazard is insurance. The basic rule is never buy insurance for anything you could comfortably repair or replace yourself, or the cost of the insurance is 2/3 of the value of the item being insured.
Could you comfortably replace a tire if needed?
I suspect most of these posters who claim they routinely make money on tire hazard insurance are really just fooling themselves and trying to fool us. Think about it....if they are making money then the store is loosing money. If the poster's experience is typical, meaning anyone can expect the same results, then the probability is the store is engaging in a money loosing proposition. How likely is that?
The odds are that buying road hazard insurance will provide peace of mind but not provide a meaningful payback in dollars.
Used to go offroading in Jeep with oversize tires ($200+ each.) Discount store manger also had off road Jeep and went with me. Always had their certificate and had many nearly new tires replaced due to off roading damage, tree limbs thru sidewalls, etc. No questions asked.
Don't have good offroading locations near me anymore
yes,I'm sure the odds are in Discount tires favor overall. However, the odds are either stacked for you or against you the way they price the insurance. It's a fixed amount REGARLESS of what tires you buy and what the tires cost. So for stuff like truck tires, higher profile passenger car tires, lower cost tires, few miles driven etc. the odds are stacked against you. For very low profile tire, TT tires and if you offroad or go where tire damage is likely, the odds are likely stacked for you and against Discount tire.
Overall, the odds are likely in Discount tires favor. How much??? well if they consider the positive outcome of claims on repeat customers, maybe it is just a wash for them or even a slight loss on insurance but a net gain on overall sales.
If they are using it to just generate profits, then definitely stacked in their favor.
As a I mentioned, since we don't offroad, I don't get insurance on my truck tires, and haven't had a payoff case. For my car with 40 series Z rated tires, yes, for my TT tires, yes. And so far the odds have been in my favor. - Romer1Explorer

Basically you're buying insurance on your new truck or trailer tires.

I had an issue with 2 tires on my rig showing sidewall cracking on tires that were 2 years old. I had bought the Discount Tire extended warranty. They replaced both free of charge. I did have to pay about $25. each to reissue the replacement certificate. Not sure why the variable price but still what I considered to be a great deal.
More than got my money back.
Good point you bring up; when you take advantage of the free warranty replacement, you have to buy the certificate again (if you want to) on the new replacement tire.
I did that on 2 China bombs then blew up the China bombs again so it was worth it to me. - huntramExplorerAlways bought them for the trailer tires because with dual axles I didn't know if one went flat before it shredded. (And they ALWAYS paid off) I now have a tmps system so i'm,not sure when i have to replace these factory ones. I never bought them for the truck, or so I thought. Even my buddy at America's Tire thought I never had, but when my tire shredded last week and I went in to buy a new set (probably 3 months early), he happened to notice I had them. We were BOTH shocked but pleased. I figured with the weight of the 5th, if i'm on the freeway like I was, if i get a flat it will probably shred before i can get over and stop. So far it has always been a good deal for me, and i'm usually anti-extended warranty type of guy. Also because we are fulltiming it probably changes the probabilities!

So no added warranty? Discount paid even though manufacturer would not?
That is correct. Discount immediately replaced the tire then sent it to the mfgr. Perhaps they felt sorry for me due to the trailer damage. - So no added warranty? Discount paid even though manufacturer would not?

I bought it because I want a no hassle new tire if there are any issues. Sure there is a manufacturer's warranty but that can be a hassle and prorated.
By the time we find a flat, the tire is often shredded. No telling if defect, road hazard or operator error. I don't want to sort it out, just get me a new tire.
Prorating an ST tire is easy. They blow while their still new so you're get 99% credit on a new one :)
Discount replaced this one for less than 10 bucks (IIRC), no questions asked (26 months old). I replaced the other 3 on my own $.
BTW, mfgr claimed it was caused by a pothole.
