Dometic toilet seal lube?

I recently found my seal leaking while in a remote location on a hunting trip. Not having any suitable lubricant on hand (gun oil didn't work, BTW), and the smell getting worse from not having that liquid barrier I resorted to filling the bottom 2" of the bowl with liquid fabric softener that I had with me.

I left it overnight and flushed it in the morning. The bowl has been holding water since! I'm not sure exactly why it worked, but it did. The bowl hasn't held water this well in a long time.

It did bother me though, that the seal is only a year old.

Didn't say which toilet model you have. Instructions for many say to let flush lever snap back. Had leak over a year ago - cleaned seal and we let er snap. Still working just fine and no lube.

My experience with silicone grease is that it's hard to find, expensive and usually comes in small quantities because of the expense. It is NOT the same as and is not called "Plumber's Grease" which is a petroleum product which will cause rubber seals to swell when in contact with it. Silicone grease actually can be found online in large containers for $$. I used "Plumbers Grease" for years with bad results and couldn't understand why. I think it should be renamed or at the very least have a warning statement to not use it on rubber or rubberized products.

I buy dielectric silicone grease from electrical supplies. I read it as Toilet seat lube too and thought HMMMMMMMM whilst stroking my Duck Dynasty Beard, Why????............... LOL

You can get silicone grease at the pool supply pretty easy and cheap. If you are brave enough, turn off the pump, put on a glove and open the
blade. Reach in and feel around the seal and clean the lip seal. Then take a dab of the grease and wipe it around that seal surface. I do this every year or two with good result. Make sure the pedal/blade is secured so you don't smoosh a finger.

Anything that you can rub in with silicone after the surface is cleaned up. I usually use silicon grease available at plumber supply houses.

I do the easy method...Put alot of Olive oil in my salad. Consume salad, wait 24 hrs, flush. Repeat as needed. :)

I hear PAM Cookin' Spray is good for helping the bowl flush clear. HGTV suggests PAM for squeaky door hinges. I imagine it'd help that flush blade.

I just bought a small tube at ORilley's. I also have a small container of it I bought at Lowes as Plumbers grease.
