- AlmotExplorer IIISaltDawg - no offense. Been there, seen it. Not fun at all. Wouldn't like to live like this. I'm glad that when the world eventually comes to this, I will not live to see it.
- SaltiDawgExplorerAlmot,
How could one argue with your well thought out reasoned and measured response?
(I went to sea for many, many years on Diesel Submarines and Nuclear Submarines - all built by the lowest bidder.)

How about redacting some under-thinking here?
Here is how they do it:
Low wages
Long hours without perks like overtime
No R&D, why think when you can steal
No QC
No environment protection
Also - this needs elaborating: few cents profit per one $1.57 meter (after postage) can keep the guy happy, because his living expenses are low. 5 people living in a small 1-bdr apartment, kitchen stove moved to balcony with plywood walls - hey, it's warm with the stove anyway, former kitchen turned into bedroom for grandma - no windows, no big deal... Hi-rises up to 9 floors without an elevator - hey, you have legs, you can walk.
I agree, most of this stuff is junk. Same junk is being sold through Harbor Freight and Walmart at 5 times higher price, with profits going to Walmart execs and their Chinese partners. With a little more QC, usually done through the procurement offices in China, a random sampling, though as a result the product quality and uniformity is better. - SaltiDawgExplorer

Shhesh. It's a $2.57 meter-face with a buck of the cost in postage and ...
Think Japanese junk in the late 40's and into the 50's. Total trash.

Stop wondering, take a trip there. Or get some good documentary, like "Manufactured Landscapes", a bit dated but still good. You are not going to like what you will see.
Beside squeezing out their own people and abusing the environment to the limit and beyond, they are also stealing - A LOT. It's easier/cheaper to make a clone without having to invest in R&D. Chinese government-sponsored industrial espionage is booming.
A poor guy mailing out those $3 meters is trying to make a few cents, without having to run a store and pay taxes. Maybe even working at that factory, and has an employee discount (or even stealing).
Situation similar to somebody selling electronics or designer clothes stolen from a warehouse or factory - and consider that the factory had essentially stolen it already, copying somebody else design. It doesn't surprise you when that guy at the corner is selling at the fraction of "normal" cost, so why does it surprise you this time? - MEXICOWANDERERExplorer"Do Not Use Any AC Wall Adapter Except For The Genuine Nook Or Damage Can Occur

A Fool And his money Is Soon Elected... - landyacht318ExplorerI put 2, one decimal mini voltmeters on my dashboard. I tested them with my DMM, and turned the adjustment pot to dial it in and have the sense wires right on the battery terminals. Very informative.
This made me realize how much more informative a two decimal digital voltmeter would be, and I found one on Amazon for about 7$ with a red display, and knew it had no adjustment, and when testing it, found it was close to 0.20 volts off.
Non adjustable, useless. My recourse, a bad review and a 'product no longer available'.
Anybody want it? just pay for shipping.
I've found Amazon shipped products from China say they will take 3 to 6 weeks to deliver, and show up 7 to 10 days later.
One electrical product I ordered on Ebay said it was to be shipped from china, but shipped from Brooklyn, with missing parts, but they made it right. I'd found the same product on Amazon for 1$ more, and it arrived before the Ebay replacement. - SaltiDawgExplorerLast year I was at the Apple Store. They wanted like $10 bucks for a stylus for my iPad.
An Alternative source.
I agree with the OP, wonder how they do it. - crcrExplorerI bought this one on Amazon, and IIRC, it arrived quickly. Total cost with shipping was just under five bucks.
It has been in use in our TT for several months now, and I'm very happy with it. It displays to two decimal points, not just one. Inside the TT, I tapped a constant hot in the kitchen, 28' from the batteries, and mounted the meter there. Once hooked up, I tested the voltage at the batteries with a volt meter, and got the same number to the hundreth exactly, as the meter inside the TT displays! That's quite accurate enough, thank you very much.
It provides a nice night light also. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerAnd not a one uses made in USA components. With Chinese stuff including 101% made in China HONDA generators and engines, it's a question of supervision. Japanese tend to hire Korean subcontractors to marionette Chinese design, production and quality control. Same for made in Taiwan material which tends to be far superior in quality and uniformity as compared to unsupervised made in China electronics.
Acquaintances in China told me "Koreans! They are mean!".
