Forum Discussion
- jodeb720Explorerhaving been down this road myself, on my 2003 Chevy Silverado, I did the same thing Chris suggested, I checked the Truck first, then the 7 pin and found that the 7 pin wasn't getting voltage when the brake was on and right turn signal was engaged.
Turns out that GM has two separate circuits for my truck. One for the truck itself, and one for the tow vehicle.
I googled the problem and it turns out there was a recall on my truck - when it manifested itself. Since my problem was 2 years ago, I just got on Rock Auto, ordered the turn signal assembly and replaced the unit. Problem Solved.
I'm not sure if Chrysler did the same separation of circuits on your truck, but it's worth looking into.

P.s. I found out that in the fuse block there was power to the turn signal - but not with the brake depressed and the right turn signal engaged. - Sam_SpadeExplorer

Op here...Yes, only on left rear signal light on trailer.
I don't know why I'm asking this exactly but...........
Is there any different action if the parking lights are turned ON .....versus 4 ways with lights OFF ??
The LEDs don't draw much current so it doesn't take much of a bad connection to make one fail. - path1Explorer

Not to argue, but if the tow vehicle works fine, what is YOUR suggestion?
Up to this point, the OP hasn't really SAID if the failure is ONLY on the trailer or not. You assumed it was and I assumed not.
It's not an argument, it's an adult discussion.
In his last post, he seems to indicate that the failure is ONLY on the trailer......that is, the 4 way flashes correctly on the tow vehicle but not the trailer.....and if that's the case one would think there is a problem with the wiring going to the trailer somehow and odd problems like that DO tend to be ground related.
Odd problem indeed.

I would test the tow vehicle at the 7 way first- not sure how Dodge fused their trailer feed, but checking underhood fuses might be in order. Do the truck lights all work OK?
Next I would look closely at the grounds.
Given that everything works perfectly......except for one side when in 4-way mode.....it is highly unlikely that any of that applies.
Not to argue, but if the tow vehicle works fine, what is YOUR suggestion? I highly doubt the turn signal switch would cause just the trailer to not work. My best bet would be ground problem- given LED current draw.
Thanks. Will check out if current draw is same or less than other side. Will also run a temp wire from light to ground (metal bumper) to see if ground might be week. All truck lights work. I've also have a elec plug for 5th wheel in bed. Will check if light works with in-bed plug any better. As maybe my plug at tt hitch is not grounded good. - DrewEExplorer IIDoes the truck have separate indicator and brake light bulbs/filaments? If so, there's some sort of a three-light to two-light translator circuit or box somewhere, and maybe that's not working properly for the 4 way flashers.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.
