Electrical issue

I have a 2009 Keystone Cougar 320SRX and this weekend while camping, the DW and I went for a short trip to the store to pick up some ice and when we returned I noticed the trailer was a little warm inside. Went to the thermostat to lower the temp, and noticed that the A/C would not kick on. I immediately checked the breakers and fuses, and all were fine. I then noticed the control panel for the hot water heater and pump was not illuminated anymore, and none of the buttons or switches functioned. Somehow I still had hot water all weekend.

My first thought is something is wrong with the distribution panel/inverter, but I would think there would have been an indicator signalling a problem.

While the distribution panel / inveter is only $130 to change out, I do not wish to simply throw parts at this (especially the A/C).

I did check to see if I had 12v power independent of the 12ov power and I do. Disconnected the trailer from the panel at the campground and I still had all 12 accessories (minus water heater and pump control panel)

Any help or guidance is welcomed.
  • Having lost only 12V DC to some items vs the whole 12V DC System means you have lost DC power on individual circuits....ie: furnace/t-stat DC power, water pump & control panel DC power.

Doesn't mean you have a 120V AC issue or a converter DC issue or a battery DC issue....just an individual DC power issue

Check ALL DC Fuses that feed individual circuits in your rig. One or more has blown ----7.5A, 15A or 20A
    (DC Dist Panel)

When you disconnected from the pedestal, all you've done is eliminated your converter (the device that charges your battery) and we're running off the battery for 12 VDC. So yes you still would have 12v when un-plugged. As others have stated it looks like you lost 120 AC power from the pedestal.

Also, you most likely don't have an inverter but rather a converter.
  • Verify the pedestal first! Don't do anything until you make sure you have voltage.

If that fixes it, your good. If that doesn't work, then your power supply panel box may have been hit by a power surge. Do you have any kind of RV Power Surge, EMS system on your camper? It's possible that may have received a power hit and shut down.

One more thought? Since this happened at that campground, did you also check the breaker at the campground power pole?

I do not have a surge protection system.
  • I turned every breaker off, waited 30 seconds then turned back on.(several times) Yes I checked power at pole and flipped that breaker off and back on several times. I did not have my multi-meter with me, so I could not check for exact voltage input though.
  • Just a suggestion? Flip each breaker in your panel from on, back to off, and then on again. Sometimes a breaker can pop and it still looks like its in the normal position. Considering everything is off, I'd start with the Main first then work your way down to each breaker one at a time.
