I plug into shore power (without batteries hooked up) and no lights or refrigerator working. I read somewhere that there might be fuses up in the box where the wires from the batteries connect! not sure about that.

I pulled the converter all the way out, didn't see a fuse. I will look in to it more on saturday. My converter is a WFCO WF-8955.

ALL converters have fuses.. Sometimes they are not located on the converter however.

Example. Magnetek Converters which are intergrated into the power distribution center the fuse is on the right of the fuse panel. One of the two right hand fuses (Actually both of them for different parts)

on Parallex intergrated units.. Same (A 2008 Won't have a Magnetek but may have a Parallex)

on "Stand alone" the fuse may be ON it, or inside it (you may need to remove a cover).

And if all else fails there is Murphy's Law for Electronics Engineers.... (one of them modified for this thread)

A 50 dollar Diode Bridge will blow to protect a 50 cent fuse.

Yup it happens.. That is the field I have certification in after all :) Even if I never formally worked in it.

You should buy a meter and learn the basic functions. Relying on the gauge of a charger is not reliable. You will have no idea if your batteries are 100 percent charged and what the converter is doing.

Were you able to look on all four sides of the converter for fuses? Sometimes, they are not in a good sightline.

Also, if still having DC problems check for a resettable breaker or fuse on the positive battery cable.

Is there a fuse on the converter? YES. But
Converters (for this discussion) come in 2 types. one is built into the power distribution center. Typically this type will have both fuses and breakers behnd a common door.. And the fuse, is typically one of the two fuses on the fuse panel (they will be the largest fuses (Typically 30 anmp)

The other type the converter is a box all by itself.. In this type it will have fuses ON BOARD.. may be hard to find without tools though.

On my RV, the converter is a good 15 feet from the fuses, stand alone and PLUG IN.. It has failed several times.. All for the same reason........

Some stupid idiot knocked the plug out of the socket (As to who.... Well I'm the only one rummaging around in that area so.....)

And SERIOUSLY consider getting a multi-meter or at least an inexpensive 12 V battery monitor......or both.

My battery minder (plugs into "cigarette lighter" type socket) first showed me that my alternator was going bad.....and then showed me that the battery had not been charging properly for long enough that IT needed to be replaced too. A backlit model is a must.

Did you check the batteries? If the acid level in the battery gets low it will do the same thing. It won't hold a charge well or will run at low voltage. Before putting in a new converter, try the source. Just add distilled water and give it a good charge. If the acid level has dropped below the plates in the battery for an extended period of time the battery may have a dead cell and will have to be replaced.
