eu2000i

Hello and Welcome from SW Indiana. I'm a noob to camping but not to forums like this. There is a TON of good information here. Take your time and look around. Don't be afraid to dig into the FAQ posts. They are VERY useful! Seems to always be someone around who can answer any questions that you have.

I've recently ordered an EU200i and an EU2000i Companion from our local John Deere dealership. Combined, I think they'll run anything we need to run, including our 13.5K air conditioner. For cooler weather trips, we'll be able to leave one of them at home. Bonus - if we have an ice storm during the winter and have the power knocked out, we can use one and loan the other to my sister and her family. I really like the versatility of this combination.

I see your subj is EU2000i 2KW Honda Generator. This is very popular amoung the RV'ers her due to its small footprint and weight.

Being small wattage of course you not be able to power up your whole trailer but it will produce 1600 watts or so to run alot of thing. Mine will not run my 13,500 Air conditioner however.

We camp alot alot off the power grid and the 2KW Generator is perfect for this. We have beefed up our trailer battery system to run all of the 120VAC items we want to have running and all the 12VDC items we want direct connected to the battery bank. The battery bank has been planned out to run all of these things usually starting at 6PM to 11PM each day and will still have a good 50% charge state left over at 8AM the next morning.

This is when we connect our 30AMP Trailer shore power connection to the 2KW Generator using a RV30Ap15A long adapter and then using our on-board smart mode converter can recharge our batteries back up to their 90% charge state in a quick three hour generator run time. Most of the place we go to all have generator run time restrictions in place so this works out perfect for us. With the 90% charge state we do all of this all over again the next day/night run off the battery bank.

ALot of forum members only give you short quick answers and others like me like to pass on alot of things that may or not be of most importance to the asked question hehe...

Roy - I'm not a dry camping guy (yet), but my question is this: I've read volumes of the Honda / Yamaha / Champion, etc 2000 series NOT being able to run the A/C or some cases the microwave. That being the case why is not the 1000 series (any brand) more popular of an option?

Seems the 1000 series should be able to recharge batteries etc ? Lighter....smaller .....

Again, we are state park campers with no experience with generators.

Mostly curious about this.

1000 is good for about 40 amps into the battery... what is your converter rated?

FWIW, twin Honda 1000's can be used together in parallel using Honda hookup cables and the two of them together put out more continuous power (1800 watts) than a single Honda 2000 (1600 watts). So, two Honda 1000's might start and run a 13.5K air conditioner when a single Honda 2000 won't.

Also, each Honda 1000 is much lighter to handle than a single Honda 2000. Plus, two Honda 1000's provide twice the overall 120 volt source reliability of only one generator as a 120 volt source.

Thanks for the info, again I'm not planning on boon docking and was justed curious. I just notice in non hookup camping areas, it seems the 2000 series is the most used. I was just wondering why if the 2000 can't run ACs and microwaves, most boon dockers don't just use the 1000 series?

Maybe it's just the difference in cost is only a few hundred bucks?

I can't speak for others, but the only thing my EU2000i won't run is my 13.5K Btu AC unit, a Dometic model. It will run easy start 11k units, as well as some of the smaller 8k or 9k Coleman polartec models.

My Eu2000i will run my microwave oven.

My Eu1000 won't run much of anything except lights, heater that burns propane, and the battery charger. Not even a hair dryer.

The Eu1000i is most sensitive to crappy gas laden with alcohol clogging it's jets and being a PIA to start and then start hunting or searching with fluctuating rpm's to maintain a load, due to the carb size and main jet size being the smallest. You have to load the gas you buy up with Seafoam and Techron and Blue Marine Sta-bil to keep the jets clean, and turn your gas over frequently, as well as drain the carb anytime you won't be using the /Eu1000i for more than a week.

This can mean more frequent carb tear downs, rebuilds, or flat out replacements. It keeps you broke and small gardener shops very busy sucking money out of your wallet to fix or repair, if you yourself are not mechanically inclined.

Though a 2,000 will not run the A/C.. it will the microwave, a 1,000 will not.

And if you get a Honda EU-2000i-companion, and a low cost parallel kit, or two E-2000i and a high cost parallel kit,, it WILL run most Air Conditioners.

Same is true of all the makes with a parallel kit. Though only the Honda makes a Companion model far as I know.

I would not mind a Genrac 1000 (Traditional generator) one serial number in particular, or a Yahama EF-1200i.

That's the first time I've read anything about the Honda 1000i's design being inferior to the Honda 2000i's design.

By the way, has anybody experienced a 13.5K air conditioner not starting up on a single Honda 2000i ... but starting up on paralleled Honda 1000i generators?

I'm curious as to whether or not paralleled 1000i generators can supply a bit more inrush current to a compressor than a single 2000i can. If this is the case, then IMHO it may be a no brainer to go with paralled 1000i's instead of paralleled 2000i's in many cases where we're talking about the leaviest RV load being a 13.5K air conditioner. This is not considering high altitude 13.5K air conditioner situations, where paralleled 2000i's would of course be the better way to go.
