    To all our valued customers,

Sending the below e-mail was the hardest thing I have had to do. I have worked with this company 9 years and have been the contact most of you have worked with. It was never the intention of this company for this to even remotely occur. We had some internal problems and PHMSA was working with us to get all this resolved. We did not ever feel any of you receiving this e-mail were in any danger. They wanted new management and new ownership. We gave them all they asked for after being shut down for 8 months with no sales. We worked diligently to address any internal issues we had in the past that resulted in a failure in the field. After an incident which involved a cylinder that none of you have they did the mandatory total recall of all cylinders ever made by Lite Cylinder. All companies experience issues but I stand by this company and its product. Whether you were just a single order customer or one of our large customers it didn’t matter. I cherish you all. We all lose in this. On our side it’s our jobs and on your side it’s also financial. I would only hope that if Lite Cylinder could ever get past this recall all of you would still be our customers. Even though we won’t be here we are appealing the recall but we don’t know what the outcome will be. I have enjoyed working with you and consider you my friends. May God bless each of you.

Think that was before they shut down. Sounds like the Gov got a little pissy because things did not get reported so they shut down all production even the good tanks. Looks like the end user is left holding the bag.

Still did not explain what was wrong with the tanks. In most places, the person that refuel;s your tank does not know anything... I have seen them refill the old tanks without OPD. And how long has the "new" law been in effect? 6 or more years?
The link provided by the OP tells the whole story. The manufacturer failed to report manufacturing defects over a lengthy period of time. Those defects made it into retail sales ... not too cool when it's a propane container.
  • I liked those bottles because one could easily see how much propane was in them. However, I wondered how well they could bond the metal valve to the fiberglass and ensure it won't leak.

Metal propane bottles are boring, but if the weld is done right, they do the job and do it well for decades, assuming they don't rust out.

  • Oops! I have two of the recalled tanks! I purchased two when they were first introduced and got along great until one of the cases they are put in broke in half last fall. Called Lite Cylinder and they immediately sent me out two new ones. They are the ones recalled. Seeing how the factory shut there doors and wont be involved in the recall I am out two tanks and need to go buy a couple of steel ones. Sure did like the see through tanks.
  • Wow... Thought about buying these to save weight, but ended up deciding the cost didn't justify the relatively small difference (easier to remove a few items instead)... Glad I didn't now.
  • Since I have two Fiberglas LP tanks this info was shocking. I found that mine were manufactured by Ragusco in Forida under the name of Clear View. A visit to their website states they are not under any recall and their tanks are not involved. Thanks for the heads up!
