Which generator/size?
The first thing that comes to mind if fuel is ok, is the oil level.
That said, I had a Onan 5500 demonstrate the same symptoms. It required new brushes and they did something to the stator. With bad brushes it couldn't find power output on startup and shut down after about 15-20 seconds.
BUT - whatever it is should be trowing a code to point you to the problem.
