- dclarke618ExplorerIt ends up that a sealed connector corroded and had to be replaced.
Thanks everyone I appreciate your help - Generator_JimExplorerThe J8/P8 connector plug is inside the generator housing. It is very close to the main battery cable and the wires exit the generator set through the same hole as the main positive battery cable.
Earlier models had the plug at the rear left corner of the generator set next to the fuel line.
JimL - dclarke618ExplorerTracking down the J8 and P8 connector has been a dead end. I have not been able to find it. A wiring diagram showed a connector under the kitchen cabinet, but I could not locate it. All wires under there went into a hole in the floor and seem to be in some sort of duct work under the floor. Any tips as to how to get to the wiring harness. This appears to be getting outside of my comfort zone.
Thanks - OP has two switches inside the rig. It could be a bad connection where they all come together.
I tried to find drawing for the remote connector, so he could test at that point. - Generator_JimExplorer1. If the generator starts and runs from the unit switch, the control board and generator set is OK...
2. Look for a plastic electrical connector labeled J8 and P8 with 5 wires on it.
3. You have a problem between the inside start switch and its wire which is J8-C and the remote start wire P8-C.
4. I'm basing this on the fact that everything works on the remote switch except the start function and everything works on the on-unit start switch.
5. Item to note. ONAN controls work on ground signals not positive signals.
JimL - The two switches are then paralleled to the circuit board in the genset.
The remote wires go into the circuit board, then should operate a small control relay. You need to check the common point on the switches for 12 volts DC power.
If no power is present it will not operate. That is when the fuse, at least on mine, comes into the equation. - dclarke618ExplorerThere are 2 on the inside that won't start the generator. Seemed kinda odd that they both went out at once so I haven't checked them yet
- The one inside that doesn't work!
- dclarke618ExplorerWhich switch? The on on the generator or inside? Are they linked together?
- Did you find any identification marks on the switch?
