HELP!!! Rotted floor in fifth wheel bedroom slide!

I have a 2006 Cypress by Newmar 5th wheel camper. I noticed that the plastic under the bedroom slide out was coming off. Upon further inspection the floor is rotted in the outer corners. I am sick about this. Any ideas before I start calling dealerships? I live in NW Arkansas.

  • My area is larger than 4"x4" but that may be an option before I spend a bunch of money on it.
  • Sadly you too are being subjected to the misery of newmar ownership. Our 2003 38' mountainaire fifthwheel went back to the factory 3 times for various issues the three years we owned it. After 3 years we decided to cut our losses and got rid of that overpriced piece of junk. Sure hope you find a better resolution of your issues than we did. Good luck.
  • How large is the rotten area? My previous rig had a 4" X 4" spot in the corner of a slide. I cleaned it out and used several layers of Bondo. Ground it smooth and painted black. Couldn't see the repairs. Kept the rig for another 3 or 4 years without any problems.
  • Thanks guys! Jim wad that cost for each slide or for all 4? Did they kill you on trade?
  • I sold my 38 ft fiver due to all four slides having rotted floors. Factory installed the bottom edge trim so that water ran over trim and into end grain of the flooring.
Repair place said "custom length" plywood is very expensive and hard to get. Only made in northern Indiana. Each slide had to come completely out to replace floor and would cost between $4 and $6000. to repair.

GPGD -- That was for each slide and yes, we did take a beating on the tradein
  • If the rot is confined to the floor, the usual source is the under-side seal.

Replacing a rotted floor is tough and expensive...everything including the walls rests on the floor.
