- 3_dog_nightsExplorerFYI - I had a clog in my shower drain and followed the line thru the floor to find one of these Hep-vO filters in the line. Not knowing anything about it. I unscrewed both ends and ran a garden hose thru it. Blew out a piece of plastic the instaler had left behind and a ton of hair. Reinstalled and everything works fine. I think I like this thing....

They say it is less likely to clog and I can see that. When it does clog though, how do you clean it? Do I use a septic safe Drano? Will that hurt the membrane? If close to the drain hole, I might use a plastic Zip-It drain cleaner?
Kiwi:
As for the potenial for any sink trap to clog I myself plan on using a good basket strainer. This way you'll keep most of the food solids out of the gray water system and keep your GW tank a happy camper :) BoonHauler wrote:

BoonHauler, Thanks. I actually started with the RV Doc. I found the HepvO Manual. I see some of their claims, like the seal will remain when not used for a long time, but remain skeptical. I see that in your OP you posted a link to Drain Master. I've been working with them on some of my Sanitary Sewer items. Give them a call as they're VERY knowledgeable in this deparment, it's their business.
Ask for Doug (owner), he's a really nice guy and will answer all the questions you have. Tell hime BoonHauler sent you.
I am NOT an RV owner. I have been a Professional RV Technician for 34 years and Master Certified since the first year they started a Certification program. That is the basis for my postings and comments. Doug- BoonHaulerExplorer

What "membrane drying" are you talking about? It's rubber and there's no "drying" to worry about. As for Doug be an "RV Technicain" I still question his opinion on this matter.
There are tons of these things on the market now and I have yet to see it as an issue, failure that is.
Sorry. Not the membrane itself but rather the seal that water causes in the center.
Kiwi, do an internet search for "HepvO", there's all kinds of info. Even the RV Doctor has covered this product RV Doctor, What? No P-Trap
Like I said, they're not cheap to buy like a regular P-Trap is. I'm using one because of the limited space I have. - AllegroDNomad

Sorry. Not the membrane itself but rather the seal that water causes in the center. - I never said they were "Bad". I just believe they are NOT as reliable as a standard water based P trap. There may be "tons" of them, but I have only seen them on a few models that have zero clearance for a P trap and the only option is the valve type. What is YOUR technical or experience as a basis for your comments? I was asked, and I gave my reply based on my REAL experience AS a Professional. RUBBER does dry out and does NOT remain pliable forever. I AM a Tech and have replaced 2 such valves due to odor or leakage over the past 2 years or so. Doug

Was told that there is a Tiffin installed HepvO on my shower. I cannot get to it or inspect it. I do not have that type of optical camera.
