- landyacht318ExplorerRockauto was having a wholesaler clearance on many Mobil1 filters last week. People on the Bitog forums were ordering dozens at a time for less than half the regular price on many models.
Feeling the Heft of a Mobil 1 filter, or a Fram Ultra is rather impressive compared to the more economy minded filters.
I've got both on my table as I type this. The FramXG16 will be going on my remote transmission filter, the M1-301 on my engine to replace the Motorcraft FL-1A.
I open up all my used oil filters and check what the media and external magnets captured. The can thickness of the Mobil 1 cans makes this difficult as I usually use a sharp bt low quality chisel to punch through near the base rather than a cutting wheel.
I don't know about Mexico, but Fram Ultra is now taking up a lot of shelf space in the local Walmarts, more so than the orange can of Death models or other brands.
My XG16 was $8.97, same price as Amazon. My M1-301 was $12.93 on Amazon with no tax. My FL-1a was right around 4$ at wally world. Oil and oil filters are about the only things I ever go into wally world for, and while in the automotive department, I like to sneer at their dust covered Marine batteries. Makes me feel good for no apparent reason. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerLandy, Thank You!
That is exactly the type of information I tried to provoke with this thread! The least expensive Mobil 1 filter I found several hours ago was found on Rock Auto at eight dollars a copy. Nice to see FRAM lose the title FLIM-FRAM with the existence of the ULTRA.
I think the GOHNER's media pretty much stops with anything smaller than an Iguana. - landyacht318ExplorerThe Fram Ultra, not the tough guard fiberboard endcapped orange can of death, or the extended guard or any other model fram filter, is one of the best constructed filters with the highest filtering ratios available.
It is also less expensive than other high end synthetic media, wire backed filters with Silicone, not nitrile, Anti drain back valves.
Don't equate the Fram 'Orange can of Death' with the Fram Ultra, as they are at opposite ends of the spectrum, at least in this point in time. - OldmeExplorer
- sjholtExplorerI've installed a Frantz toilet paper bypass filter on the 5.9B motor and increased the oil change from 6k miles to 18k miles and still could go more miles according to Blackstone. Of course I change the TP every 3000 miles and add a qt of oil and that helps keep the TBN up and the particulates down. The Franz filter has been on the motor for 107k mikes now with absolutely no problems.

If you really need to keep your oil clean, install one of these Frantz toilet paper filters. It will filter just about any particle out of your oil.
Do you use those? - westendExplorerIf you really need to keep your oil clean, install one of these Frantz toilet paper filters. It will filter just about any particle out of your oil.

In terms of the best filtration/flow combination, the Purolator Pure1 is the best on the market. If you can get it for your engine, then I highly recommend you do so.

What is this based on? Is there some research that proves this? - DaHoseExplorerIn terms of the best filtration/flow combination, the Purolator Pure1 is the best on the market. If you can get it for your engine, then I highly recommend you do so.
