- Kayteg1Explorer III had lot of carbureted engines and running carburetor dry was always all the preparation I needed.
My Honda 3000 inverter generator runs on 3 years old gas just fine after such preparation.
On my boat with 5 l Mercruiser (?) I had to add shut off valve as it was not equipped. Than it took few turns to prime the carburetor bowl before the engine would start, but that sure beat cleaning gummed carburetor I had to do in 1st year of ownership - NinerBikesExplorer

Got a pair of Hondas that are over 10 years old. I do what he said. And yes, they start up on the 2nd or 3rd pull each spring!
After I drain the carb, mine is a 12 or 13 pull job too, then next time I need to fill the bowl and get it to run. Gotta let the fuel pump do it's job.
BTW, when I drain the carb, once drained, I leave the motor switch in the "off" position, flip the choke to cold start position, and pull the starter handle another 3 or 4 times, to suck all the gas out of all the jets in the carb also. Anyone with a small outboard knows this is standard operating procedure, suck the jets dry of fuel also. - ScottGNomadWhat ever process you follow, you'll have better results if you use ethanol free fuel in it.
- dalejExplorerNo problems with storage since since I began using Star Tron
- RoyBExplorer IIMy 2008 EU2000i Honda Generator sits secured in the tailgate corner of my truck bed which has a folding hard locking cover.
It gets used for something at least once a month so never really goes in the storage mode... Usually starts on the second pull of the cord...
Never used to notice folks before stranded in a parking lot until I started carrying my generator with me all the time. I seem to be getting folks started up now in parking lots where I am waiting for the wife. I hate shopping haha...
When I run down my truck battery yapping too much on my ham radio it is nice to hook up the 10A Smart mode charger and run it with the generator for 5 minutes to get me started again...
Just last week a motorcycle guy saw me sitting in my truck and walked over to ask me for a jump. So I moved my truck over to where his motorcycle was and hooked up the 10AMP charger to his battery and fired up the generator. That surprised him as he was expecting me to pull out the long jumper cables I guess... we got to talk for five minutes haha...
Sitting in the back of the truck I assume shakes the generator around alot as I never have any problems with the old gas gumming up the carb.
Roy Ken - TrackrigExplorer III've got three of them, never done anything to them for storage. One of them sat five years before I used it again. The biggest problem I have is remembering to turn the fuel tank vent on.
Bill - wnjjExplorer III'm sure to be in the minority here but I don't do anything. Only once in 10 years have I had to clean the jet in carb when it was surging. Always starts fine, even after months. It's stored in a lightly heated garage. Most winters it gets used at least once during a power outage.
- MitchF150Explorer IIIMy Honda 3000i is about 12 years old. I just leave it in the garage with sta-bil in the gas and run it every couple of months.. I leave about a half tank and when I run it, I'll run it for about 30 minutes under load.
The starter battery has been dead for the last 5 years.. It starts on the 1st or 2nd pull every time. I'll let the tank run low and then put some more fresh sta-bil gas in.
I have my house wired with a gen switch, so I'll hook it up and run it for a couple of hours at least once a year.
Don't take it camping much, since I don't boondock anymore.
Anyway, that's what's been working for me..
Good luck!
Mitch - My Kipor has been sitting about 4 or 5 years. No prep as I had no idea at the time it would not be needed for so long.
