Is killing batteries three times too much?
I use a set of 6V golf cart batteries from Costco. The pair that is in my rig now is two years old and they only last a couple of nights before the low voltage alarm on my CPAP starts sounding. When they were new, I could go six nights under our typical usage.
I check water levels and have never been much below the maximum fill line, I plug in for a couple of days when I get home, I store them in the garage on a trickle charger over the winter, and my camper has a 3-stage charger in addition to the converter. My information on maintenance comes from the 12 Volt Side of Life web page.
I'm trying to figure out why they are no good after a couple of years. I had them on the charger for several days and was only able to achieve a max voltage of 12.28V. Last winter I drew them down to the 10V range while skiing. This summer they seemed to work fine, but I was living in the wilds of South Dakota for six weeks and I drew them down to 10V two times since I had no generator or electricity. Since the second time, I have not been able to get them to work well.
In the end I have two questions:
1) Should they really be this bad after three drains?
2) Is there anything I can do to recondition them?
Note: I just replaced my camper a few weeks ago and the new one has the typical converter/charging system, so I no longer have my sweet 3-stage unit that my Lance had.
