King Control OA-8000 Replacement antenna

I am considering the King Control Jack replacement antenna for my 5th wheel. Currently I have the wineguard bat wing antenna. This antenna has 4 small feet that contact the roof when lifting arms are in the down position. Does the Jack replacement antenna set on the roof or do the lifting arms hold the antenna off the roof? If held off the roof, does this allow the antenna to be stable at highway speeds? I called the company and they did not have the answer.

Thanks

  • If the batwing arm is installed such that it rests on the roof when fully lowered (and possibly leaving a mark on the roof) then I suggest what I've seen others do. They layered 2 or 3 strips of Eternabond tape on the roof beneath the point of contact of the batwing arm - to create a landing zone for the arm to rest upon, instead of directly on the roof.
  • I have done it. When I bought my RV it had a Batwing that was not working, I cleaned up all connections and tested to see if it was broken, it was,so I replaced it with a new bat wing then ran a Channel Scan I was not impressed with the amount of channels that I got. This was done in my driveway here in the south bay of So Calif using my SensarPro.

I then went out and got a Wingman add on, that put my channel scan up to 47,but I had a clearance problem with the Wingman

So I opted to put a Jack on and my channel scan went up to 60

I then went with the Rayzar as you can see it fits in the same space.
I opted not to put it on the supplied 13 In. arm. I kept one arm of the Winegard mast and mounted it that way, there are instructions in the kit,it is very easy to do. This way I had it in the same space and got the maximum height when deployed.

The Bi-Directional feature is great and easier to use than the Jack and I get a few more stations.

X2 what Chris Bryant says. I didn't see much improvement with the KING Antenna. I eventually went back to the BATWING with UHF DIPOLES added like shown in this google photo...

  • The Jack is held off the roof by the arms- I haven't had or heard of any problems doing this due to wind.
FWIW, the Batwing is a measurably better antenna- if yours is bad, a Sensar IV with built in wingman would be the best fringe setup, or a less directional, cheaper alternative is the Winegard Razar Air replacement.

Installation was easy for me - takes a couple of minutes... Pull the two bolts at the bottom of the BATWING antenna. Be sure to use the same orientation as shown here- otherwise the Jack antenna will not be level when raised up.

When done it looked like this google image. The front of the JACK antenna will be to the left of this photo.

My KING ANTENNA worked just fine with the same COAX CABLES and the Antenna Wall Panel 12VDC Power Source. Just push in the panel button to send 12VDC control voltage up to the KING antenna. I did not use the King provided DC POWER Insertion adapter.
