It just slays me that people are so quick to deride someone who holds a counter opinion. It's as though the ones who hold their opinion are not sheep. Yeah, right. They've bought into all the anti-K&N propaganda, but, nope, they aren't sheep. They believe it but have never tried it, but, nope, they aren't sheep, just well informed, ovine quadrupeds. Gotta love it. :)
You can usually tell when someone runs out of arguments, they just resort to throwing mud. Or sheep scat. :)
I TRIED a K$N..
Result was no extra power.
No extra gas mileage.
No faster than stock.
More noise? Check, yep, it "sounds" a bit louder, but louder does not make it go faster or get better mileage.
In the end it also oil and dirt fouled the MAF..
And BEFORE you spout off about ME personally over oiling it.. I will point out that the oil and dirt fouling out of the the MAF happened from using the filter as it CAME direct from K$N..
And BEFORE you spout off about K$N not preoiling the filters.. THEY DO PREOIL MOST filters.. Some filters they do not.
Mine came with oil dripping out of the plastic..
And BEFORE you spout something about I bought a "used" K$N, it was not. The plastic was HEAT SHRINK SEALED to the filter.
And BEFORE you spout something about that I am the only one that has had problems with K$N, NO.. I am not.
I have to continually clean my Dads' carburetor on his truck every 3-4 months because he INSISTS that K$N is a "better" filter than a stock paper filter. And since he is in 80's he doesn't drive more than 1K miles per year but like clock work I get a call that his engine won't idle again.. and it starts all over again for me..
Yeah, I bought in to the marketing hype, spent $50 on the junker and even spent an additional $20 for the K$N "cleaning kit" which I ended up throwing out also.
Paper filters cost $10, I get 30K miles out of a paper filter.. For that $70 I spent on the K$N I could have bought 7 paper filters.. so with the stock filter that comes with the vehicle and 7 more filters I will get 240,000 miles of driving on that same vehicle.. That is pretty much the "life" of most vehicles and most owners will have traded/sold the vehicles well before 240K miles..
If it wasn't for the fact that I have been wrenching on my own engines since 16 and well over 35 yrs of doing that I would have taken that vehicle to a dealer and they would have sold me a new MAF for $250 PLUS hit me for $200 labor PLUS a diagnostics fee..
Yeah, I am not a K$N "sheep" any more..
