Lance 830 Battery Replacement Trouble

Hi all,

I replaced the two group 27 12v batteries in the Lance 830 in parallel. I am 99% sure the white wire came off the negative terminal and the black wire came off the positive terminal.

When I went to hook the batteries up, I noticed a Positive label on the white wire and a Negative label on the black, so I hooked them up as such.

Immediately upon turning the battery switch on I blew the 10 amp Furnace fuse and the monitor panels no longer work, although the 3 amp fuses that belong to them look fine.

Many of the interior lights, the fan over bed, and range hood fan work fine.

Could Lance have mislabeled the black and white cables?

  • I broke out the owners manual, which clearly states white is neg and black pos, yet they are labeled wrong. Oh well. Should have trusted myself instead of the label.

  • Could there be a sticky HEADING READING.... ??????????

LABEL ALL BATTERY WIRES CLEARLY BEFORE DISCONNECTING !!!
Learning the hard way is expensive and frustrating!
  • Some things will run if reversed polarity, but fans will run backwards( blow instead of suck.) Some things will blow fuses
  • It turns out that Lance mislabeled the wires. The white is the Neg and the black is the Pos. Now I just need two new fuses.

    Crazy.

  • If you can follow the wires, the negative wire will be connected to the chassis. The positive may or may not go thru a fuse and eventually end up at the converter and power distribution panel. Its probably easier to follow the negative wire.

Normally, when the two wires are black and white, the black wire will be the positive wire.
