Part of the high mileage is that the mfg figure they will seldom need to eat any warranty claims. Why? well, first the are replacement tires, probably on a 3-5 old vehicle with 30-50K miles on it. Then you buy a set of tires with a 90K mileage warranty and don't read the fine print that says 90K miles OR 3years, sometimes 4 years. so how many folks will keep the vehicle long enough and drive enough miles/year (20K-30K) to end up with a mileage claim? IMHO Not very many. Those that do drive 20-30K miles/year are likely lots of highway miles that give better tread life than in town stop and go miles will.
While I cannot ever remember seeing any limit in YEARS on tire warranties I can honestly attest to the fact that when a tire company claims uber high mileage (60,000-90,000 miles) the PRICE of the tire goes through the roof.
For many years I bought Sears branded tires which were made by Michelin. Sears back then offered at no extra price road hazard and long mileage on the tires. First few rounds I managed to get new tires for less than $20 per tire when they wore out at less than half the warranty mileage.
Then Sears got cute and started to "sell" road hazard and mileage warranties as ADD ONs at the register.. They also reduced the prorating on the tires meaning you get much less per mile back on wear out. Then the cost was more than buying at a Michelin dealer..
I moved on and started buying tires at a real tire only shop that sells Michelin, BF Goodrich and a handful of other brands..
I quit buying Michelin branded tires, instead my tire dealer can get better pricing on BF Goodrich (which is owned by Michelin)..
Get some prices on BF Goodrich tires and don't bother with the high mile warranties, you most likely will not get much back.
As another note, some cars ARE very hard on tires, we had a 93 Mercury Cougar with 5.0.. fun car but extremely hard on tires.. The longest we could get out of a tire was around 20,000-30,000.. Didn't matter if on the front or rear, it just ate tires.
Mex, perhaps you should slap some "LTs" on your car, that will fix your problem :B
