Norcold 482 issues not working please help!

Were having some serious issues with our Norcold 482 2 way, according to Norcold it's part of a gas shut off valve recall http://www.norcoldrecall.com/ according to Norcold, the other day it was running on gas and it suddenly started to smoke from both the outer compartment and inside the coach, I turned off the gas and turned off the fridge and it stopped, turned it back on, it was fine for about 15 mins, then made a popping sound and there was what appeared to be fire in the left side inside and again smoke, turned it off, next day noticed one of the 12 volt 5 amp fuses was bad and on one end was covered in soot. I replaced the fuse with another 5 amp and it immediately it blew and noticed a spark from the 12 volt connector, I will be uploading some photos I took today as soon I can, The Norcold customer service person informed me that if it caught fire it would do damage to the fridge and most likely it is
damaged and will not work. I left a message with the person who handles the recalls, I need to file an incident report and find out if they can repair or replace, most likely referred to a service center. Has anyone else had a similar experience, how do I know it's not damaged and it's just a 12 volt issue? I have a multimeter that can test for Ohms if necessary.
Thanks

  • 5A fuse is for 110V AC power circuit for electric heating element. (3A fuse is for the 12V DC control circuit)

IT caught fire and smoked.........DO NOT TURN IT BACK ON!!!!!

Get an authorized service tech and have them go thru circuits.....control module could be shorted, electric element could be shorter, wiring/circuits could be shorted.
DO NOT REPLACE 5A FUSE AND TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN!!!!

Have it checked out by authorized service tech.

Did I mention.....DO NOT TURN IT BACK ON

    ON EDIT:.......Just saw your pix's
DO Not turn it back ON......lots of corrosion, bad terminal strips etc.
Probably be better off replacing fridge........
  • I think the underlying message is do not turn it back on, our sentiments exactly.
    Thanks
  • 1. Your refer is NOT original OEM. Your Cooling unit has been replaced with an aftermarket
    2. The areas you show are the 120 and 12 volt wiring
    3. HAS the recall been done. If NOT, WHY would you continue to operate the refer AFTER your first Fire/Smoke incident?????????
    4. The recall is NOT for you to do. You must take it to a Norcold Auth Service center for them to evaluate and install the new Gas valve assbly IF, the refer is determined to qualify since the Refer has been modified over the years
    5. Norcold will NOT allow YOU to do anything at all. Doug
  • It is hard to diagnose by looking at pictures, but that problem doesn't look like it is related at all to the recall, and I would suspect the recall has been done, by now. It looks like an electrical issue, not an issue with the gas valve. I'll also point out that has been rebuilt- the cooling unit is a Nucold (not Norcold).

The reason for the recall is a French built gas valve that the safety valve doesn't shut off 100%, and can leak LP gas if the unit is turned to LP but the flame is extinguished.

    FWIW, more about Nucold-
    BBB Report
Nucold shut down, now doing business as rvicebox.com
  • We do not intend to replace ourselves we will leave that to the pros.
    Thanks
