Norcold N611 Won't Work on Propane

We are pretty new at this and trying to get our fridge to get cold before our first trip. It works fine when plugged in at a camp site, but for some reason, when we set it to propane it isn't working.

It is a Norcold N611.

We cleared the air from the lines on the stove.

We switched the switch on the fridge from off to gas several times waiting. The yellow gas light comes on and the green light just blinks. No noise of any sort. No cooling.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

  • Sorry to hear you're having issues
Our 2009 super cold N611 has worked perfect from day one - June 2009
5* in the freezer and 32* in the frig with a setting of 3
The ARP_Safe system with data logging lets me know what's happening on a real time basis, flume temp stays about 350* F when being cooled
Never used it on electricity always been on gas with no issues

    What is your flume temp?
    Have you cleaned the flume?
  • Yours won't work on gas. Ours won't work on electric. Good thing it's still under warrantee. After calling both the RV manufacturer and NORCOLD, we were told to take it into the dealer/service center and THEY would have to call for "the part". ...... Which kinda says to me that NORCOLD is well aware of their product's issues.
    Good luck to you.
  • This is a long shot for you. We found that sometimes out refer wouldn't run on gas. After doing some searching online and some testing at the unit itself. We found that there was a poor connection between one or both of the electrical crimp on connectors at the gas solenoid. I could hold the terminals to the solenoid and it would light /work, but when not being held it was a******shoot. The answer was to use a zip tie to put some pressure on the wiring connectors at the solenoid so that there would be a connection. Usually crimping the connectors a little tighter would do the job, but my efforts failed there for reasons unknown to me.

Back to the basics - make sure you are getting gas to the burner. Check the electrical connections at the solenoid and make sure gas is being passed by the solenoid. If necessary for testing, a propane bbq lighter can be used to light the unit if it doesn't light on it's own.
  • Either the unit isn't getting gas (is there maybe an individual shutoff right at the fridge) or the igniter isn't lighting it off.

As was mentioned, a little close sniffing and listening should give you a clue as to which problem you have.

But a visit to a service center is probably your best bet once you eliminate the simple and easy stuff.
  • Here is a blog post from some friends that had what appears to be the same issue.

WHY are you trying to do a reset :H

You stated it wasn't lighting off on LP not that you were getting a No Co error code???? Which on your model is the ON LED light flashing 5 times every 3 seconds.

You should be listening for click of gas solenoid and clicking of spark electrode when fridge attempts to light main flame

  • The plastic exterior refrigerator panel on my trailer is pretty easy to remove. Not sure if this would help during diagnosis of the issue (like Old Biscuit recommended), but you can get a look at the "guts" anyway.
  • May just need to get propane flow established..

Turn on stove top burners on HIGH.let them burn for a minute then try fridge on gas again....might take a few attempts.

When try to run on gas have someone outside with lower vent off and watch/listen
Should hear click at gas solenoid and click/click/click at burner from spark electrode.

    No clicking..then no DC power

Clicking....then might just need to retry lighting off
