  • If the switch is accessible, you should be able to disconnect it at its connector. If this doesn't alter the dinging and the brake light, it's presumably necessary to short out the connections (assuming there's only two of them). This, of course, means that you don't have the reminder should you attempt to drive off with the brake engaged, but I guess that's already the case anyhow.

As Johno02 said, double-check that the parking brake is fully and completely disengaged. I sometimes have to give the parking brake lever a little upward shove to get the switch to admit it's disengaged on my (Ford-based) class C; the spring doesn't always quite get it up the last millimeter of travel.
  • On my Chevy Silverado, there is a metal piece that contacts another when the brake is on. My piece broke, and it did exactly what yours is doing.

My solution was to pull the metal piece back enough to slip a piece of wood under it. This broke the circuit and didn't affect the functionality of the brake at all.

If you're is a GM product, you can order the replacement online from Rock Auto and you're golden (after fighting with it for 45 minute and cussing at the engineers who designed to poorly in the first place)!

    Good Luck,

  • Make sure parking brake is actually released completely. What kind of vehicle would also help. Where is sensor switch located?? Pedal or actual brake mech. Need more information to provide better answers.
