Power converter

So you thro every box away that ever has a loose overheating connection.
Well I think that's ludicrous,......and humorous !

Should you trust a circuit breaker or connection that has glowed with heat. PERIOD!

Metals ANNEAL, coatings oxidize and high resistance is the result. This is a death wish if you decide to keep using the parts that have become incandescent.

If the rig were mine or a customer's, OUT go the breaker BOX, or the strip with the breaker tang connections get replaced and so does the breaker. The parts that glowed and what they touched get replaced.

You will note this response is minus humor or sarcasm, this subject cannot be made funny or minimized.

Thanks for some of the ideas. The converter was replaced with an identical model. I will go thru and check connections for tightness tonight. As a background on myself- I work in industrial maintenance so I am comfortable doing the work. I just normally work with 460v- this whole -120 to volt half and half thing is new to me.

He was having a problem before he change the converter.
No matter what, there should not be a hot connection,....that's why we have breakers.

I agree, but at the same time be thankful that you have found the problem. Even w/ a shorted converter, the 20 amp breaker should trip before any connection heats up.

Reminds me a couple yrs ago, our electrical stuff here in the house was going crazy, tv flickering, dryer lights coming on for no reason, etc, then the A/C slowed/shut down etc.I knew there was a serious electrical problem outside some where. I headed for the sub panel in the laundry room, while DW took a stroll outside to the main panel, then she hollered, come here, listen to this !!
It was scary, sounded just like my arc welder inside the main panel box.

Long story short, a loose screw on a large terminal lug, that was in a 6 month old box that was installed by, guess who,.....you got it, a genuine elec tech !

My guess is they don't know what they are doing and wired it incorrectly. They need an electrician before further damage is done.

The first thing I'd ask is this: Did you replace the 6345 with the same thing (Bad Idea) or did you upgrade (It's not possible to get downgrade).

So what did you replace it with. And did you replace the entire assembly, (Distribution box and electronics) or just the "Guts" (electronics)

Then I'd wonder why it's blowing breakers, what breakers it's blowing and so on, More details may lead to enlightenment.

It could be a problem with the converter on the 120V side. Unplug it or remove it from its breaker. Make sure you have the battery hooked up to see if 120V and 12V work then.

EDIT: I will add that if you're not comfortable with this then most definitely get an electrician. It worries me that you have a glowing hot lead in your breaker box.

And if its a bad lug on the breaker, replace the breaker,......and it doesn't need a lectrician to do that either.

No way I will attempt to diagnose something like this over the net. Someone could die or the RV could burn. You need to leave it unplugged and get an electrician.
