prodigy brake controller still reading 1.8.

I was putting my fiver back in storage when towards the end, I heard a buzzing at the trailer brakes. I'm thinking they may be overheating because of my tendency to fit the fiver in perfect. In and out, in and out, in and out. I kept hearing the buzzing until I unplugged the brake controller in the bed of the truck. My brake controller read a 1.8. until a couple of minutes later when it read n.c. (not connected) and then went off. Is my brake controller going wacko?
