Prodigy P2 Flashing Underscores

Recently my trusty old Prodigy P2 has started flashing what I assume are "error codes" at me. These do not match any of the codes in the instructions.

This is with no trailer connected.

The code is literally the bottom line of both digit LCDs flashing together in a rhythmic pattern. Looks EXACTLY like this:

_._

A few times, then a pause, then several times, then a pause, then a few more times, then a pause, then several more, then a pause... I can't get an accurate count because I'm trying to drive while it's doing this.

I believe it is trying to give me some numerical code for some error condition. Any ideas? I've tried tekonsha and etrailer and my question seems to go right over their heads. They just send me another copy of the instructions, which does not cover these codes.

  • Could it be that you have the dial turned all the way down to minimum? I do that when towing my little utility trailer to avoid locking the brakes and because that trailer doesn't need the braking.

The Prodigy is designed to do that to remind you that the trailer is plugged in but the voltage will always be 0. It only will do this when the dial is turned ALL the way to minimum.
  • I had some trouble with the "trailer plug" pins after a while in the fuse panel down by your left foot in the 2003 Chev. Had to rig an alternate power wire to the controller as it turned out, while the other three wires were ok. You could fiddle with yours to see if that might be what is going on.

Also with nothing in the truck's 7-pin the controller should not do anything? Perhaps there is corrosion in the 7-pin that is confusing things.
