propane stove help. and yes am new.

Ok so i just got a rv couple months ago, and i live in it full time. I usually use a protable camping stove for cooking. But now am trying to use indoor stove but cant seem to get it to work. Ive turned on the gas, yes it has gas 1\2 tank. And when i go to lite the stove its like there is no gas comming out. It has its own ignitor but ive tired matches also. I cant even small the propane. What am i missing? Very hungry right now. Lol going to use microwave i guess till i fiqure it out. I know it works cause when i got it the guy turned it on. Thanks for anyhelp you can give.

  • The gas regulator valve may be the culprit and preventing gas flow. The gas pressure on both sides of the valve needs to be equalized. Turn off the gas tank valve(s, disconnect the gas line(s) at the tank(s) and then turn on one of the stove burners but don't try to light it. This will equalize the air pressure on both sides of the gas regulator. Finally turn the stove burner off, reconnect the gas line(s) and turn the tank(s) valve(s) back on. This procedure will get the regulator back on-line and get the gas flowing again.
  • Thanks for all the help. Will try to purge again tomorrow.
  • Its probably empty and thats why nothing is working. But guy said i had to lite it for the heater to work. But he pointed to the magneTek power plus. Not sure it heater it with the a/c unit. Was told it runs on propane.
  • So i just did that and still nothing. Inside the rv says full and on the tank says half. Their is a tiny valve knob that i turned and propabe came out so i know theres sonething init. Didnt small anything inside and i put my nose to it. Clockwise it off right? As for the furnace no clue. I tired to use the heat and no idea how to use it. Only cold air was coming out Or where it is. I have a 97 El Monte Tioga. Was 37° in rv the other night had to get portable heater.
  • Does the furnace work? Hot water heater?
    What kind of RV?
  • Thanks for the info. I just finished cooking on the protable but will try it right now. I might have been turning it to fast.
  • You might try and turn the propane valve off, then turn it ON very slow, then try the stove again. Most propane cylinders have an "excess flow" valve that shuts off if there is excess flow, and if you open the valve too fast, the valve might take that excess flow as an indication you have a leak and shut the valve off, then you have no flow. Your propane gauge could also be faulty and maybe you are out of propane instead of the 1/2 tank you think you have.
  • When you hold a match over one of the burners and turn it on, does it seem like their is air coming out but just won't light? If so, you may have to purge the air out of the lines until the gas gets to the stove.

I can take up to 60 seconds for gas to flow properly.

If you are concerned about gas building up,simply open the door while you do this and don't try it for more than about a minute.

I do this and then light each burner, allowing them to all burn on high at the same time for about 30 seconds to fully purge the lines.

This is how many of us purge the main lines when turning on or switching tanks, too.

    Hope this helps.
  • have you been using the furnace? usually it is the stove that gets the flow of gas first. if you haven't been using the furnace my guess would be the regulator is bad and or the tank valve is off or bad.
