Puschasing a Class A with Manufacturer Full Warranty

Is there a Manufacturer of a Class A motorhome out there that has and honors a full warranty on their products. When I buy a vehicle from a dealer I don't want to have to chase down the suppliers. If I have an issue with my fridge or any other part on the motorhome, why should I have to contact Dometic etc. I was under the illusion (alas) that I bought a Winnebago not a fridge on wheels! So is there a Company that warranties and repairs under their brand name? I want to eliminate the middleman, namely the suppliers.
  • An acquaintance purchased a 1.1M home a few years ago. He had a problem with a Jennair (sp?) stove and the home builder gave him the name of the local Jennair dealer.

The HOME BUILDER will get his sub contractor to fix any warranty problems. As to appliances on the HOME, the individual appliance makers will be responsible for the warranty. This goes to GOOD Home builders. GOOD builders use responsible sub contractors and those sub's KNOW if they do not build it right and do not respond to failures, the odds are the contractor will not hire them again. BUT, a lot on Home builders, the home owner is responsible for calling and setting up warranty appt's on the appliances. I have been in the RV business for 40 years and the ONLY dealers I am aware of that have or give customers the brush off on warranty concerns are indeed those Internet/1-800 dealers. They sell so cheap, they cannot afford to do complete warranty work and hire the staff to process warranty and hire KNOWLEDGABLE SKILLED RV Technicians to do the work. Doug
  • You were under the illusion.

Take some contract law courses to understand how manufacturing and warranty laws work. Huge difference between manufacturing a finished product, and installing it, as far as who warranties what, or determines suitability of fitness for use, or misuse.
  • Accessories that are a disaster waiting to happen can bankrupt a dealer. The distributors I contracted to were -strongly- advised to not sell individual components to customers. No regulators, no starter solenoids, no battery combiners. one warranty -consideration-, eats profits like crazy. Time is money and arguing with a customer who sports a block of wood for a head is a good way to lose your butt. Customer claims a warranty on a "bad" alternator - which tests to spec fully loaded on a test bench, we told the customer to bring the car in and for the nominal checkout fee we would tell him what the problem really is.

Manufacturers are caught in a grand trap deciding between price and quality. I realized this back in the eighties when I built Quicksilver. Shooting closed cell foam onto water tanks was not cheap, nor was running electrical conduit tubing and Klixon marine circuit breakers. I chose ThinLite 48" fluorescent fixtures because I could buy 48" tubes by the box cheaper thn the 18" tubes which turned black every other month.

Finding a Service Dept. that cares whether you live or die is crucial. They'll go to bat for you and help resolve vendor issues. When Sal at Kool Fun, Inwindale, CA. (they rebuilt, and manufactured gas refrigerators) told me RV gas refrigerators are (expletive deleted) that changed my mind. Forever. Sal also told me electronic water heaters were fits in the electronics dept, I chose a 10-gallon manual for Quicksilver. I've got better things to do than fight warranty issues over garbage grade stuff.
  • GOOD dealers handle ALL the warranty items. IF the OEM does not handle it the dealer goes thru the individual supplier and gets it done. The ONLY thing most dealers will not/cannot do is warranty on the chassis. THAT must go thru the Chassis Dealer Service dept UNLESS the RV dealer also is a chassis retailer or warranty center. A LOT of OEM's require their dealer to go thru the vendor supplier. It IS a hassle for the dealer, but they do it for THEIR customers. Years ago (2002) Newmar tried a 1 stop warranty for all components(except chassis)because they had a 3 year warranty. We stopped selling Newmar in 2008, but they dropped the 3 year warranty and I think that program stopped then also. Doug
  • There is a difference between a contractor buying material parts & pieces which he will then decide how to assemble into a working system; vs him buying an already complete system or product designed and built by others. Your contractor is not going to warranty the frig or washing machine or television or furniture. If all he did was install & connect it per the manufacturers instructions, the warranty is from the mfg. All the contractor may do is act as the middle man in helping you file your warranty claim with the mfg.
  • That's simple- buy from a Dealer with a good service department. You will pay more than from an Internet discounter, but the dealer will provide the warranty service- it doesn't matter who pays the dealer. Your mythical Canadian contractor certainly is not going to replace a Moen faucet for free- Moen will pay him.
  • Strange, if I hired a contractor to build a house for me in Canada and there was a problem with the plumbing. I would not be going to Moen, I would expect the contractor to make good on the warranty. Strange indeed? Thanks for the input.
  • If there ever was such a company, dumb enough to warranty other manufacturers products on their nickel; they'd be bankrupt & out of business by now.
when you buy a house on wheels, you're buying a dozen products from a dozen different manufacturers.
PS: your car mfg doesn't warranty the tires that they didn't manufacture, they make you go to the tire mfg.
  • No there is not - would you expect a contractor of a new house to be able to fix the built in microwave
