RCA Soundbar W/LG TV not working

We purchased a 42" LG 42lb5600 TV for our fifth wheel. I hooked up the RCA soundbar with a optical cable and all I get is static buzzing sound. Called LG and no help of course. The soundbar works if I plug the optical cable into our satelite box. But we dont use the satelite that often. Checked and tried different Audio settings on the TV but no luck. The sb worked fine on the old TV also but we were using the RCA connectors. The new TV only has Optical audio outputs. Any thoughts.

Go into your audio settings on the TV, and set the optical output to PCM. That should do it.

Sorry, it will not on most TV's that have this problem. Doug

OK, just a guess but, Is there an HDMI ouput on the soundbar? IF so, connect to the TV using it. In doing so, check the HDMI inputs on the TV & see if there is one marked "ARC", if so use it.

WHY would there be a HDMI cable output on a soundbar? I have never seen one with anything other than Optical and RCA audio. Doug

    Doug,

My system is a JBL Cinema SB400

"ARC" stands for audio return channel and functions in place of an optical connection, but requires an "HDMI ARC" input on the TV replacing the use of the optical.

    HDMI connectivity:

With three HDMI inputs, the Cinema SB 400 provides convenient connection for multiple HDMI source
components. It also includes one HDMI output with Audio Return Channel (ARC), which sends the TV sound
back to the soundbar. This simplifies switching and makes the system easier to use.

I agree that it has HDMI and I was wrong, but this is an extremely hi dollar system that would not be used in an RV. I doubt most would even find the need in a Home system for this cost. I certainly would NOT buy this system. I am happy with my hi end Vizio sound bars(2) that cost $249 each. I fail to see the need for a HDMI built in switch system. My Vizio TV's have 3 and 4 HDMI inputs. Simplify???? I have one Optical run from the TV to the soundbar and then the power cord for the soundbar. ALL TV inputs (ATT Uverse/DVD/2nd DVD) have HDMI to the TV and then the single optical cable produces sound for all sources even over the air TV signal's. Sorry, I believe my systems are a lot simpler than using the $500 system. For 1/2 the cost. Doug

  • I can tell you one thing for sure, a new audiovox soundbar would not work on our new 55"LG. Returned it for a iLIVE soundbar, and it worked great, and it was 30 bucks cheaper. I can't remember the details, but I think the audiovox was not compatable w/ Direct TV,.....something like that anyhow.

  • Ran into the same problem on Panasonic TV's. ONLY a Panasonic Soundbar would work with Panasonic LCD TV's. Vizio/RCA soundbars would not work on Panasonic. Did not even get a buzz, just no sound until the customer brought me a Panasonic soundbar. Doug
  • Do you have it set on ant if not using the sat?One other person had to plug it in a headphone jack
