Repeat Cummins 5.9 electric lift pump failures

Hi our shops team has been tasked with troubleshooting a unit with repeat lift pumps failures. It’s on its fourth lift pump and all have have failed in less than a hour of run time. The chassis is a 1999 Holiday Rambler Endeavor. While doing research on the issue we found a 8/13/15 post by retiredtravelers2013 with possibly the same issue. The post was never updated with a fix. Does any one here know the out come of the post or has a issue such as this? We would use the information to troubleshoot the issue and post updates as we work through the issue. The unit is equipped with a VP44 and a electric 12 volt lift pump. Thanks
  • What is the voltage with the engine running, set your meter to ac voltage, see if you have ac Ripple on the lift pump feed

Try disconnecting the RV house INVERTER that makes 120v
A continuous duty 12dc motor burning out
Seems like some ac voltage leakage into the DC system
  • We are installing Cummins part 5362273. We are also seeing .5 volt being supplied to the power wire with the key off which may be part of the issue we are looking for confirmation of that being normal on a know good set up if any one checked it or is willing to check and update on this post. Thanks
  • I take it you've checked out the electrical fittings and grounds thoroughly. I'd almost think there is an electrical problem, maybe a bad ground. Very unusual for lift pumps to fail that quickly, at least more than one anyway. What brand are you installing?
  • Read up on FASS or Airdog. Put in better fuel module or make your own mod to accommodate 1/2 bulk head fitting with 1/2 Fuel line and low pressure led light. Common problem, one of their biggest problems.
Lift pump goes out then the $$$ VP44 goes out because lack of lube from fuel.
  • Probably not what you're looking for but a FASS pump will outlast the stocker many times.
    Best of luck to you.
