I would suggest you take I77. Although there are some fairly steep grades, your SUV should handle it with ease. Keep it at 60 mph. If you were towing, it would be more challenging.

      I don't recall Sandstone being all that difficult but as I said I don't think you'll have any issues in an SUV thru Fancy Gap
