My 06 F 150 didn't have a factory guage, and wouldn't show trans temp on my OBDII scanner.
It seems it has to have a sender, or the factory computer controlled trans.
According to a Ford trans engineer who answered me on a forum.
It works on my 2006,You have to go online to scan guage,What wont show up is oil temp.I programed for trans temp and trans slip.
Maybe this is the engineer that developed the wonderful spark plugs for the 06 3V:E - j-dExplorer IIYes, if it's a V10 from 1997 and up, transmission should be 4R100. The E4OD designation went away when 460 was replaced with V10. As mentioned above, these transmissions were based on the three-speed C6. With overdrive added and control shifted from hydraulic to electronic with solenoids.
I'm guessing in this part - that the engine controls, ECM, ECU, PCM, whatever the name for the computer/brain and related sensors may govern the readings available from a given transmission, by model year. - tarnoldExplorerOP here. Think the trans is a R4100.
- buckyExplorer III had to call Scanguage to get the right code to load as the correct one was not pre
programmed for a 98 Chevy.. They were very helpful. As long as a signal is being sent to your PCM for temp, you should be able to pull it after the scangauge is loaded properly. - 64thunderboltExplorer IIDo not think pre 99 pcm's read trans temps. If not your scanguage will not. You could just buy an analog guage and install the sender in the test port on the trans which is plugged right now. That is what I did before installing my Edge CTS monitor only. No tune as I have a custom chip. Good luck.
- tvman44ExplorerMy '02 F250 does.
- beemerphile1ExplorerCan't say for sure but it works on my 1998 with the 4.6l and E40D transmission.
The key is what transmission do you have? You probably have the same transmission as mine. As far as I know, all E series and F series used the same transmission 1989 - 1998. It is an electronic shift version of the old C6. - dockmasterdaveExplorerMy 06 F 150 didn't have a factory guage, and wouldn't show trans temp on my OBDII scanner.

Anyone know for sure if a 1997 E 350 6.8 will display the trans temp on the X guage? The literature seems to say maybe, maybe not.
Go on a ford truck website, and ask about programming X Gauges on your ScanGauge 2 with your truck model number.
