Shower Drain

Correct, should be no real problem, other than smell, and if your galley tank, and shower tank are separate, the shower tank would smell best. :) Also each tank should be vented out the roof to help for smell.

If the trap is easy to get at, best to replace it, and not worry about it. My shower P trap is easy to get at from my basement storage.

BTW, using a PLUNGER on a drain that has a HEPVO valve will pull the rubber duck flaps backwards also. Don't ask how I know this:B Either way it will allow odors up from the gray tank. Gray tank smell is 10 times worse than black tank and I would get your Hepvo valve replaced. Doug

I have 3 tanks...one black water and two grey. The shower and bathroom sink are on their own tank. So far no odor but I will look into replacement of the valve....so, since this occurred, I put a small screen strainer over the shower drain. But if this happens again, what is the best way to remove a hair clog? I know now not to stick a hook down the drain.

You may not get much smell from that tank, and good idea to catch hair in screen. However with no guts in the valve, the hair should go right on through to get caught in the tank outlet valve at some point. How easy would access be to that valve? It might be best to just not allow anyone with hair to use the shower.

I already told my wife she has to start using the outside shower. It's her hair that is clogging things up...mine is very short. I did look underneath and located the valve and it looks fairly easy to get to. I looked on Amazon and a replacement is around $45 but I don't want to order the wrong one, so I will get the old one out first

I already told my wife she has to start using the outside shower. It's her hair that is clogging things up...mine is very short. I did look underneath and located the valve and it looks fairly easy to get to. Great, sounds like you got it figured out! Your camping neighbors will miss out, with non-use of the outside shower, but I'm sure the inside will be more convenient for everyone

I use a standard 1/4 inch plastic icemaker water line. You just slide it down the drain and the water line pushes thru the duck flaps and easily pulls back without causing damage. Doug

To dissolve hair clogs I use a solution of NaOh which is sodium hydroxide or better known as lye and water. Works great! It's sold in hardware stores as a sewer line declogger and is sometimes called "Lil Devil". Try an experiment with a bit of hair in a container of water and then add some lye and probably in about 10 minutes the hair will breakup into little pieces. Be careful in using lye because it's caustic. Follow the instructions on the container. Also it doesn't harm the plastic drain lines.

Never in my life have I used any type of drain cleaner. Pull and clean “P” trap. Or pull sink stopper.
