I recently purchased two Surge protectors, one for my daughters 5er and one for my TC. I paid about $80 each, from Bestconverter. I read this thread about Surge protectors costing over $200. My Surge protectors are from made by Progressive Industries, and have a Lifetime warranty. Why is mine so inexpensive?

probably only protects against a surge, no over/under protection. AC delay restart, many other advantages. that is why I always state get a multi-function surge protector, $250 and up, not the $90 special.
bumpy - Reddog1Explorer IIKeep in mind, I am very ignorant on this subject.
Why would I need more than the SSP30? - 4aSongExplorer
- down_homeExplorer III looked at Progressive Retailers sites after initially viewing op.
they have some versions that are well over 300.00.
We have the 50 amp Surge Guard. I don't think CW had Progressive at the time. It cost us near 400.00, it seems.
It has save the coach a few times. I remember two right now. In Missouri we hooked up to pedestal and cut on air conditioning. Only one ran. Wife started Microwave in the interim and it didn't wan to run. Lights wouldn't come on.
I'm not quite sure what was the cause. The Campground said something about new wiring and water. The Surge Guard kicked out. I'm not sure why it ever let power to the coach.
Second time a full campground. No one used air conditioning much, at that campground in Michigan but a lot of some bodys must have turned them on at once.
Surge kicked off the surge guard. Some had brown outs. Coach has built in protection but we weren't aware of it when we bougth the Surge Guard.
Third time, I now remember same campground. Tornado to the west and sever thunderstorm. Surge guard kicked out. Lightning strike to sub station or something. No power til next day, I think. Some had some damaged electronics. - Reddog1Explorer III am dumber than a boot on this subject, so I gotta ask a couple of possibly dumb questions.
I have had TCs since the early eighties. Been living in a house for over seventy years. I have never had a fire in my TCs or home, but have had fire extinguishers in both. My point is I cannot say how good my fire extinguishers are cause I never needed them.
I have never had a Surge protectors. If I have ever had an issue where I needed a Surge protector, I did not know it. How would I know if a given Surge protector is great?

If I can't see where I have never needed one, how can I tell if it is or is not doing its job?

The ones with only LED's I do not recommend. They only protect against one thing (I do have that too) they do not protect against low voltage or 240 volt outlts.
mine does
bumpy - RckyMtnViaExplorerAnother vote for Progressive.

Do yourself a big favor and buy the Progressive Industries EMS 30 or 50 It has a LIFETIME WARRANTY and the other brand SurgeGuard only has a wimpy 1 year warranty! Makes a huge difference when a few years down the road and a power pedestal blows out your Progressive Industries unit. ....

Let me be Frank with you! No really. Frank said it well. - dbatesExplorerI've had a Progressive Industries EMS-PT30C for over 10 years and have followed the different brand reports on this forum. Even before Progressive advertised their life time guarantee their customer service was exceptionally better than Surge Guard's plus the fact that Progressive's equipment is segmented so that parts can be replaced allowing you to repair a unit without two way shipping.
As far as the need for such an item I consider it as important as carrying MH collision insurance. I've never had a surge but many on this forum have and it saved them thousands of dollars and repair time for electronic equipment damaged. I’ve had low voltage and reverse polarity power a few times and the unit protected me from potential damage.
