If a "breathalyzer" was made a required retrofit on a motor vehicle?Some of the technical problems associated with a retrofit? Like it or not this has become a "hot spot" issue according to some pundits.Similar to patrol cars that are equipped with license plate "read and auto detect licensing, crime, and other law violations"Is this the proper forum for this? I tried to match and found nothing that seemed to fit. Because I visit the state that is considering this I would have to install such a device myself. I would like to read about experiences that other readers have noted with court ordered breathalyzers. But not -personal experience- which would be ludicrously intrusive.I have a hard time believing enough machines would ever be available to do this. But California state legislators are irrational. This would cut me off of my access to medical. But then again, the image below depicts damage done by a .025 blood alcohol level

they already have them for people with a dui.The car wont start witout breathing i to it then it records the reading and a probation department checks it once a week or monthly

Didn't some car manufacturers install breath analyzer/engine immobilizer in their cars ..... 40 or 50 years ago?

For many campers, drinking heavily seems to go hand in hand with the great outdoors. It's not just camping though...Our western society seems to support and encourage heavy drinking. Every celebration and sporting event is tied to alcohol. Even at the morning weekend farmers market, they're selling locally grown alcohol. By the afternoon, they're selling tap beer and shots, at a farmers market.Every tourist trap weekend my local town puts on involves alcohol - fishing contest + beer tent, chili contest + beer tent, raise money for vets at the beer tent, Sunday matinee; under 18 your first pitcher is free at the beer tent.

I think they're just tied into the starter solenoid circuit. No blow, no power to the starter. It's not connected to the car's computer or other mechanical systems.

It's either that, or you give up your license. Michigan can and will also seize (and auction) a drunk driving car, even if the driver isn't the owner.

I think they've got tether devices that have a BAC meter built in too, so you get to do random blows on your tether or you get busted for probation violation. IMHO better idea for rehabilitation than simply disabling the a vehicle.

I don't think it will actually go through for ALL vehicles. It will be too cost prohibitive for most everyday folks. However, I could see it happening for company vehicles and public transportation vehicles (including cabs and uber).

As to our society, one of the main differences is that we (as a people" see drinking as a way to get drunk. Other societies see it as a pleasurable taste.

It amazes me how many people think that "getting drunk" is the purpose of a get together. While it makes for a great song, it sucks in reality.

Here in Michigan if you get a DWI, you have to fit a 'blow to go' in your vehicle and you blow bad, the car don't go. You get to foot the cost too.

I think it's a great idea.
