Trimetric 2030 showing drain while plugged in

I've just discovered my generator is not charging my battery bank, though the 120v outlets are working fine. Breakers aren't tripped and the fuses seem alright. Charging off the alternator works too. Lately I've been running off park power and haven't really been checking battery levels but they always seem really low when I leave. The trimetric is working fine in general - I think I wired it properly because it used to show a charge while running the genny.

Ah yes sorry- I'm using the converter that came with the camper, a WFCO 8735. Trimetric still reads 12.2v hours later. Drain is steady at - 0.02 amps and doesn't fluctuate much w/ various power loads.

Parasitic draw inherent in most all campers.

Check converter output with generator or park power running: disconnect Pos cable from the battery and check the voltage btw the cable and the Neg cable. Does it read 13-something volts? Anything at all?

And - yes, replace WFCO with PD converter at your earliest convenience. WFCO never charge battery well, even when they work.
  • Working or not, do yourself a favor and replace the WFCO with a Progressive Dynamics or IOTA converter.
30 to 45 amps is fine.
  • Also check the reverse polarity fuses on the converter or the fuse panel (wherever they are)

The breaker to the receptacle the WFCO is plugged into might be good but the receptacle might be dead from being on a GFCI circuit that could have been affected by your zapping generator.

You can unplug the WFCO and run an extension cord from the house to power it and see if it has any DC output with a voltmeter.
  • I'm using 2 84aH interstate RV batteries, type 24.
  • It may be that your batteries are damaged. That could be from a badly operating converter. More information about your gear and measurements would be necessary for a more focused diagnosis.

Edit: you posted concurrently (no pun intended) about your converter model. WFCO converters have been noted for not performing accurately. Also, 12.2 V is around 50% discharged. After a full charge, your batteries should be around 12.6 V. With a draw of 1 ->20 milliamp, battery voltage should fall very slow.

  • Should be noted that the last two times I ran my generator I had issues when I shut it off. Blew fuses- first the main fuse, second time it was the fuse in the battery box.
