Troubles with Xantrex 2000/4000 inverter charger

That model doesn't seem to be frequency sensitive, but it will not switch over if the voltage is above 130 volts.

Thanks all. I am printing out some answers and taking them down to my dealer. Here is the unit I have.

It works fine on shore power but hooking it to a different genset is an excellent idea. I will haul my Honda down there next week.

In all fairness to my dealer they are also doing several more projects on it for me and I told them they could keep it till Spring. In my OP it didn't turn out the way I was thinking!!!

They said today that the local genset pro came by last week and set up the genset to the proper hz. They kicked on the microwave and the genset sped up and the MW did not draw from the battery. But it only happened once. Thinking the inverter may be bad itself. My dealer has set up several RV's with this system previously with no problems.

2000 with 4000 surge, that thing is for whole house use

You know there is an easy test for all this
Plug the shore cord into a portable generator
If it stays on inverter , it's an inverter problem
If uses the pass thru power and goes to charge mode
It's a wiring problem

There is a 2000/55 with its own ATS but it is not a Xantrex

The Xantrex 2000/100 does have a 120v 55amp peak current. Maybe that is what the OP meant.

The Xantrex SW series are pretty strict out of the box- something like 58-62hz, 105-130vac being acceptable. I had to loosen it to 55-65hz for genset use, plus some setups read the frequency wrong- like doubled.

We still don't know what model the OP has though.

But that depends on the MW being on an original oem circuit
And not a new circuit directly from the inverter (with or with out sub panel)

I've run all sorts of generators with converters, inverters, chargers, and never had a charge that refused to come on charge

What here is preventing an out-of-phase conflict between the different power sources??

Now syncing with the wave form and providing load support is something else, need a very clean 120vac for that

And what if anything in the tt does work of the generator ?
The opp only complained about the MW running down the battery
Does his a/c work from the generator?

'Generator ATS' IS the main ATS, was only meant to describe which way the switch input defaults to in the stated scenario...

Question to you for my understanding of Motorhomes is, help me understand why on a motorhome, the power source heirchy would be generator power first even when plugged into shore power??

X2 Almost all rigs are set up as you suggest. Also never heard of the term "generator ATS", whatever that is. The main ATS switches power between shore and the gen and the inverter is clueless about the source.

Maybe as Doug suggested it doesn't like the source...
