I don't have the Suburban heater any more, from memory everything from above is opposite: Outside switch for AC element, AC element accessed from the front side, and individual thermostats for gas and electric operation. Then there's the other opposite characteristics like different tank material, different anode material, and different drain plugs.
Wayne, they must have change them because mine's on the inside. 2013 trailer. - Ron3rdExplorer III

Bumpy,
Mine's more to the left side, looking straight into the heater. You have to reach under some junk to feel it. I'm not home right now so can't post a pick. If you can d/l the manual, it shows where the location is. Hidden pretty well. - Wayne_DohnalExplorerAtwoods do not have the outside switch, the 120 volt element is on the "back" side of the tank, and a single thermostat controls gas and electric operation.

The outside switch is ONLY for 120. It is usually a winterizing switch. Turn it OFF when you drain the W/H to prevent dry firing when it is empty. If you have an inside switch, the outside switch must be ON for the inside switch to work. Doug
Doug, on my new trailer, I only have 1 inside switch for propane, and I have the outside switch inside the heater's cover for 120v. The switch is kind of hidden and not easily seen.
if that's an atwood 6 gallon wh I would appreciate a road map to it.

It is a 6 gal Atwood, I had to look in the manual to find it. It's buried behind some wires as I recall. You can't actually open the cover and just see it. It's a black rocker switch. Odd that they put it where they do and not on the panel inside. - BumpyroadExplorerhttp://tinypic.com/r/2djdp2v/8

I see that didn't work. - BumpyroadExplorer

bumpy - gkainzExplorervaries by mfg or rig, I believe. Mine has 1 inside switch that activates the propane on the water heater. Has a small switch on the face of the water heater that activates the electric element. The two are completely and totally independent of each other ON MINE. YMMV ...
