Are you saying you have two sw.'s inside?

I added a lighted switch inside for my electric side of the water heater...and I just leave the outside switch on all the time now.(Suburban water heater)

If you have a switch inside on the wall somewhere, there is no reason to ever have to turn the one outside to "off". As far as cooking the element, the newest units can even handle a few minutes of "dry cooking". Nothing like your house. Because the newer heaters (at least some of them), have a reset. If you try to light it dry, it will kick the reset, and not do any harm to the element.

I'd leave it on moving from campground to campground with the water system full. I would be a little worried having to remember to turn it off if you ever drained the tank.

I do leave mine on. However, when on inverter I better make sure the breaker is off.

Yes you can. Unless you drain the water heater tank. IF you ever drain the WH, you will need to turn off the electric switch, or it will burn out the element unless you fill it again before you plug the RV into shore power.

Yes you can, as long as you always have water heater full of water.

If you drain the WH, be very sure the switch is off first, or you will burn out the element.
