Water pumping water out of water inlet

Hello- new here- I have a 2000 Thor Tahoe Transport 25TB. I just had it serviced at the dealer. They replaced the (pardon my terminology) the city water inlet hookup (where the hose attaches). After I leave the dealership, I pull over and look over a few things. One thing I noticed was when I turn the water pump on in the coach, it doesn't pressurize the coach plumbing- instead it shoots the fresh water out of the hose hookup. Any idea what is going on?
  • (WalMart) sells an adapter for winterization that you hook up an air compressor to. Its like $2.50. If you put a dot of tape on the inside of it, (to close the hole) then put it on the camper and turn pump on, look to see if your problem is fixed. If so, you can A. leave that there, or B. get a new check valve (as mentioned above)
  • Camping World has a replacement water inlet with not only a check valve but a pressure regulator also. It's about 1 1/2" deeper and needs a 3 inch plus hole but it protects the water system from high pressure over 60 psi.

  • There is a standard PVC plug that will fit that. I carry one every since i had that issue one time

That happened to me on one trip and I picked up a standard hose adpater from local hardware store with shut off switch on it similar to what was shown in the above post. Note the City water outlet on the trailer side is a MALE connection. Solved my probem of having water squirt out the City water connection when the pump was on.

I fixed my VALVE later by pushing it IN from the outside and letting it reseal again. Apparantly it had some debris in it. Has worked OK ever since...

Now my standard water adapter is part of my emergency fix tool box for PLAN Bs.

A water hose with a sprayer spigot on it will work in a pinch as well. Will need a MALE to FEMALE Adapter to work with a standard water hose connection. Most of us carry a water hose and sprayer to clean up things around the camp site or maybe squirt a squirrel of something...

  • I'm still learning how to use this forum, but I think I've reviewed everyone's replies thus far. Thanks soooo much!

  • The check valve is part of the city water inlet assembly.

Check valve stops rv water from backflowing into city water supply (required) but it's real job is to close and allow water pump to pressurize rv plumbing

It is a plastic plunger with spring and o-ring. O-ring gets dislodged and it will not seal or plunger gets cocked

    Remove washer/screen.......
With pump off and pressure relieved on cold water side (open a faucet) sometimes you can reset if just plunger by pushing tip of plunger in (from outside of rv) and then let spring push it back into place.

If o-ring is dislodged..have to remove city water assembly, disconnect water line and then remove 'c' clip that holds plunger in place and pull internals out.

BUT those check valves are junk.....
So I didn't want to mess with it
I installed a brass garden hose 90* fitting on city water connection and then installed a garden hose shut-off valve to the 90* fitting. Used the rubber cab that was on city water on the shut-off

Been on my city water connection and on my black tank flush connection for 7 yrs...no more issues with check valve failure PLUS water hoses hang straight down when connected

  • Seems like the check valve is all part of that hose inlet fitting. If that is all new, its defective.
  • Sounds like they either didn't install a check valve or either put the check valve in backwards. Look at the plumbing by the pump and see if you even see a check valve.
  • The check valve in the city water inlet that they fixed supposedly, is not working.
